Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone will make her first track appearance after winning two gold medals at the Paris Olympics in a special event before the Brussels Diamond League on September 13 and 14, 2024. The American athlete was set to compete in the Brussels Diamond League finals in the 200m and the 400m but it was later announced that she was ineligible.
The 25-year-old athlete was very selective in the races she competed in during the Olympic year and did not participate in any Diamond League event. Her absence from the previous Diamond League events in 2024 deemed her ineligible to compete in the Diamond League Finals in Brussels. Diamond League's CEO, Petr Stastny spoke about her ineligibility and released an official statement:
"It is not about allowing a specific athlete to compete or not. It is about rules and criteria which must be fulfilled by all to becoming eligible to compete at the WDL Final. Ms McLaughlin-Levrone does not fulfill those criteria, either by accumulating enough points or receiving a wild card. The final leg of the Diamond League is not an invitational meeting, and any athlete proposed for a Global Wild Card must have competed at least in one of our events during this season."

After McLaughlin-Levrone was deemed ineligible to compete at the Diamond League finals, the Memorial Van Damme meet organizers added her to special races in the line-up which won't be part of the Brussels Diamond League Finals. She will compete in the 400m and the 200m as a part of the Allianz Memorial Van Damme.
