“Who is this guy?” - When Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone opened up about her first impression of husband Andre Levrone

Four-time Olympic gold-medalist Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone has established herself as one of the most dominant 400m hurdles athletes of all time. The American is married to former NFL player Andre Levrone and opened up about her first impression of her husband in her memoir published earlier this year.

McLaughlin-Levrone and her husband have been together since 2020, and the former Carolina Panthers wide receiver is a constant in the stands whenever the hurdler is competing. The duo got married in 2022, and share regular updates about their life together with fans.

In her debut novel, ‘Far Beyond Gold: Running From Fear to Faith', Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone recalled her first impression of Andre, revealing that she had looked him up on social media. She wrote,

“Who is this guy? I thought. In three posts, he'd pointed to his hope in Jesus, described the Bible, and honored his parents. His Instagram account wasn't all about him. I didn't know guys did that. It all seemed way too good to be true.”

She then explained that she'd reached out to a common friend to know more about Levrone, writing,

“With no signs of a girlfriend in sight, I checked in with a friend from high school who'd attended the University of Virginia at the same time as Andre, “Okay, girl, just be real with me," I said in my Instagram message to my friend. "What's the flaw? What am I missing?" My friend quickly vouched for Andre. "He's a good guy," she said. "Passionate about football, his family, and the Lord." And yes, he was in fact single.”

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Andre Levrone got together in 2020, and the latter was there on the sidelines to cheer the hurdler on as she stormed to two gold medals at the Tokyo Olympics. Four years later, the American repeated her feat at the Paris Olympics, successfully defending both the 400m hurdles and 4x400m relay titles.

Reacting to his wife's Olympic campaign, Levrone took to Instagram on August 13 to pen a heartfelt note for the 25-year-old, writing,

“Class. Grace. Faith. Beauty. Humor. Strength. Intelligence. Compassion. Tenacity. Diligence. Discipline. Style. Whit. Athleticism..... you truly do possess it all my love. It has given me great joy to walk & work alongside you each day this season. What an excellent woman, wife, & champion you are!!! I love you eternally.”

For Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, her 2024 season has been truly incredible. After missing most of 2023 due to injury, she made a roaring comeback to the track this year.

The American’s first big performance of the season came at the US Olympic Trials, where she set a new world record of 50.65s in the 400m hurdles, becoming the first woman to dip under the 51-second mark. A little over a month later, she lowered that record to 50.37s, en route to her second Olympic gold in the event.
