Jadyn Mays hogged the spotlight after clocking a sensational time of 10.83s during the second quarter-final of the 2024 NCAA Division I West Regionals. With this blistering performance (wind assisted +2.3 m/s), she finished ahead of Adriana Tatum and Iyana Gray (11.01s), as both clocked the same timing in the quarter-final 2.
This brilliant performance by the 22-year-old Mays helped her equal the mark of the reigning 100m world champion Sha'Carri Richardson who had clocked a stunning 10.83s to win the 100m at the 2024 Prefontaine Classic held at the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
At the fifth Diamond League meeting of 2024, Richardson produced a top victory by winning against a star-studded lineup where Julien Alfred and Dina Asher-Smith came second and third respectively with times of 10.93s and 10.98s.
Meanwhile, Mays not only showed her dominance in the quarter-final of the 100m but also excelled in the quarters of the 200m where she topped the event with a time of 22.13s (wind assisted 2.7 m/s.)
This makes Mays one of the most promising young talents to look out for. With this, let’s explore more about the USA track and field athlete.
