MyKayla Skinner is a former American gymnast who took Simone Biles' spot at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after the latter withdrew citing mental health concerns. Skinner announced her retirement after winning a silver medal in the same event. However, she is back in the news because of a comment that she made regarding the US gymnastics team selected for the Paris Olympics.
During a two-hour watch party on YouTube, which showcased her reaction to the final announcement of the 2024 Olympic team, Skinner was seen making the comment in question. She put a question mark on the work ethic of the gymnasts in the U.S. Olympic roster, though she excluded Simone Biles from her observations.
"Besides Simone, I feel like the talent and the depth just isn't what it used to be," MyKayla Skinner said. "I mean, obviously, a lot of girls don't work as hard. The girls just don't have the work ethic."
She added:
"Not saying anything to the girls that got injured, but if I could come back, I think I would be able to do it. And I think I probably could've made that Olympic team."
The former gymnast has since been in the public eye. Here, we dive into knowing more about the 27-year-old's husband and her family.
