Nic Fink is an elite American swimmer who became the oldest first-time U.S. Olympic swimming medalist since Edgar Adams took silver in the 1904 Olympic Games. The 31-year-old won a silver medal in the men's 100m breaststroke finals at the Paris Olympics 2024, clocking a time of 59.05s.
Fink grabbed attention earlier this year after winning a spot to compete in his second Olympic Fames at the Paris Olympics. He has secured 13 World Championships medals in his career so far.
The 31-year-old swimmer earned the Olympic quota in the men's 100m breaststroke at the 2024 U.S. Swimming Olympic Trials after logging a stunning time of 59.08 seconds. He achieved this feat on Sunday, June 16, 2024, by surpassing Swanson Charlie and Matheny Josh, who clocked 59.16 and 59.23 seconds, respectively.
At the Paris Olympics, Fink wasn't among the favorites to win a medal in the men's 100m breaststroke event with China's Qin Haiyang and defending Olympic champion Adam Peaty as the absolute favorites. The American started off quickly and was just behind Peaty at the end of 50m. He picked pace and tracked down the Brit in the final meters as both touched the finish line in 59.05. The gold medal was won by Italy's Nicolo Martinenghi in 59.03.
Nic Fink competed in the 100m breaststroke at the 2012 Olympic Trials and settled in 11th place with 1:01.14, missing the Olympic spot. Four years later, at the 2016 Trials, he again competed in the same event, placing 7th after posting 1:00.39.
At the 2020 Olympic Trials, although he secured a spot in the 200m breaststroke with his personal best, he again fell short of qualifying for the 100m breaststroke but has finally won his first medal at the Paris Olympics 2024.
