Regan Smith is a competitive swimmer who represents Team USA in multiple swimming events including butterfly, backstroke and medley relays. The American swimmer commenced her swimming journey in 2007, representing Foss Swim School.

Smith has competed for Stanford and Arizona State University swimming teams. The 22-year-old swimmer secured two silver and one bronze medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Smith followed Zhang Yufei to clinch a silver in the women's 200m butterfly and another silver medal with the team in the 4x100m butterfly. Moreover, she went on to bag the bronze medal in the 100m backstroke.

On July 29, 2024 Smith earned a spot to compete in the 100m backstroke final after clocking a spectacular 57.97 seconds to defeat Kylie Masse and Ingrid Wilm, who posted 58.82 and 59.10 seconds, respectively. The American sprinter is currently training under the legendary coach Bob Bowman, who guided the peerless swimmer Michael Phelps to 23 Olympic gold medals.

Regan trains at the Longhorn Aquatics, where Coach Bowman serves as the Director of Swimming and Diving at the University of Texas. Bowman fulfilled the prestigious role of being the Olympic coach for the American team during the 2004, 2008 and 2012 Olympic Games and was appointed as the head coach for the men's Rio Olympic swimming team.

Apart from the 100m backstroke, Regan Smith will also compete in the 200m backstroke and 200m butterfly.

She will compete in the 100m backstroke event's final on July 30, 2024 at 21:00 local time (CEST), according to Paris Olympics. Smith holds the world record in the event, which she set on June 18, 2024, at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials by clocking a whopping 57.13 seconds to defeat Katharine Berkoff and Kennedy Noble.

Smith will compete in the heats of the 200m backstroke on August 1, 2024 at 11:00 (local time), the semifinal of which will be held on the same day at 21:11 (local time). She will compete against Kaylee McKeown and Phoebe Bacon. The final of the event is slated for August 2, 2024 at 20:36.

The 200m butterfly event's heat and semifinals will be held on July 31, 2024 at 11:46 and 20:45, respectively. The final will be held on the following day at 20:30. All the rounds will be held as per the local time.
