Simone Biles’ biological mother is Shanon Biles. She gave birth to Simone on March 14, 1997, in Columbus, Ohio. Simone went on to become the most decorated gymnast in history with a combined 37 medals at the Olympics and Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.

However, Simone Biles had a difficult childhood. Shanon was reportedly addicted to drugs and alcohol and was unable to care for Simone and her siblings, resulting in them being sent to foster care before eventually being adopted.

At the age of 6, Simone Biles and her younger sister Adria (4) were adopted by their maternal grandfather Ronald Biles and his second wife Nellie Biles. Both Simone and Adria then moved to Spring, Texas, to live with their adoptive parents.

Besides Simone and Adria, Shanon Biles has two more kids - Ashley Biles and Tevin Biles. Like Simone and Adria, both Ashley and Tevin were also sent into foster care and later adopted by Ronald’s sister, Harriet. They grew up in Cleveland, Ohio.

After adopting Simone and Adria, Ronald Biles, didn't allow Shanon to communicate, call, or visit the kids for the next six years. Shanon revealed that in an interview with Daily Mail Online, saying:

“It took me six years before I saw my children again. I was respecting my Dad to let the kids’ transition, he felt that was the best thing for them. It was hard to give up my kids but I had to do what I had to, I wasn’t able to care for them.”

Although Simone reconnected with Shanon after her adoption, Simone reportedly did not develop a strong bond with her biological mother. Despite Shanon being her biological mother, the 2016 Rio Olympics all-around champion addresses Nellie Biles as her mother rather than Shanon.

Due to Shanon Biles' reported drug and alcohol addiction, she couldn't take care of Simone and her siblings, which led to them staying hungry and struggling to eat proper food. In the third episode of "Simone vs Herself" on Facebook Watch, Simone Biles revealed her childhood struggles with hunger, stating:

“Growing up, me and my siblings were so focused on food because we didn't have a lot of food. I remember there was this cat around the house and I would be so hungry. They would feed this cat and I'm like, 'Where the heck is my food?'"

She added:

"And so I think that's where it stemmed where I don't like cats is because this frickin' street cat, she always fed it, but she never fed us."

After being adopted, both Simone and Adria were raised in a positive environment, which eventually contributed to their growth and development as individuals.
