Alex Morgan, the two-time Olympic medalist and star striker of the USWNT, has been dropped from the squad that will be representing the United States at the Paris Olympics 2024 in July.

Alex Morgan has been one of the most legendary figures in women's soccer, and the athlete has represented the American side at the highest level for nearly 14 years. In addition to being the 2012 London Olympic champion and Tokyo Olympics bronze medalist, she played a pivotal role in leading the United States to two world championship titles in 2015 and 2019.

Despite having all these accolades, the legendary forward was not included in the 18-member United States women's national soccer team for the Paris Olympics, nor was she selected among the alternate members for the event in France.

The head coach of the American side, Emma Hayes, announced the 18-player list for the French event on Wednesday. Only eight members from the 2020 Tokyo Olympics have been retained in the team, which includes Alyssa Naeher, Casey Krueger, Lindsey Horan, and Crystal Dunn, among others.

The coach appears to be concentrating on future prospects, as Hayes stated that it was a difficult decision to leave Morgan out. She stated that she wanted to choose other players and go in a different direction.

Speaking on her omission from the Olympic squad, Alex Morgan expressed disappointment at missing the opportunity to represent her nation at the Olympics one more time. However, she stated that she would continue to cheer for the team.

Morgan ranks as the fourth-highest goal scorer for the USWNT in World Cup history, with nine career goals. She played a crucial role in America's 2015 and 2019 World Cup victories and was named the Women's World Cup Silver Boot winner in 2019.

Furthermore, she has amassed 123 career goals, which ranks fifth all-time in women's soccer. Acknowledging her soccer prowess, Morgan was awarded the U.S. Soccer Female Player of the Year twice in her career, in 2012 and 2018. She also won the SheBelieves Cup five times (2016, 2018, 2021, 2023, and 2024).
