Sha'Carri Richardson qualified for the 100m at the Paris Olympics 2024 after producing a stellar performance at the U.S. Olympic Trials. However, she failed to qualify for the 200m race at her maiden Olympics.
The 24-year-old cruised to victory in both the semi-finals and finals of the 100m at the Trials. She clocked a world lead of 10.71s and stood atop the podium, sealing her spot for the Paris Olympics. Along with her, Melissa Jefferson and Twanisha Terry also qualified for the 100m dash at the Summer Games.
Along with qualifying for the 100m, the American sprinter also had her eyes on the 200m dash. However, Richardson missed the chance to compete in the 200m in Paris after clocking 22.16s and finishing fourth in the final at the Trials.
Sha'Carri Richardson kicked off the 200m Trials with a bang, having won the heats in 21.99s. She clinched the top spot in the semi-finals as well, equalling her personal best of 21.92s, and advanced to the 200m finals. However, she ran out of steam in the 200m finals as she finished fourth in the event.
The American started off strong and was in a neck-to-neck competition with Gabby Thomas until she reached around the turn, where she fell behind during the final stretch and finished fourth. Gabby Thomas grabbed first place after recording a time of 21.81s, and following her were Brittany Brown and McKenzie Long, who clocked 21.90s and 20.91s respectively.
After falling short in this discipline, Richardson has only one chance of clinching an individual gold medal in Paris in the 100m race.
