Femke Bol recently reflected on the mixed 4x400m relay race at the Paris Olympics and opened up about reaching closer to the USA after initially trailing. The 2024 quadrennial event concluded on August 11.
Bol left her mark at the 2024 Summer Games by winning two medals, which were gold and bronze in the mixed 4x400m relay event and the 400m hurdles event, respectively. She claimed third place in the latter by clocking a time of 52.15s and was trounced by Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who recorded a world record of 50.37s, and Anna Cockrell, who posted 51.87s, to claim the silver medal.
In the mixed 4x400m relay, Femke Bol and her team, which included Eugene Omalla, Bryce Deadmon, Isaya Klein Ikkink, and Lieke Klaver, clinched gold after clocking a time of 3:07.43. Her team trounced Team USA, which recorded a time of 3:07.74.
Days after her exploits in Paris, the Dutch athlete opened up about winning a gold medal in the 4x400m relay race in an interview with FloTrack:
"With the last hundred, I felt really strong. I felt I already just had overtaken Belgium, and I still feel really strong," said Femke Bol. "And the crowd went absolutely crazy. And I think with 40 meters to go, I felt I was getting closer to the USA, and we had no clue what was happening and how this was happening."
She added:
"So, I think I was almost a bit confused, but I saw my teammates, still then also ready at the finish line. So, it really gave me a boost to keep going and to be honest, I think the first few minutes we had no clue, what just happened, but it was a really nice feeling."
Femke Bol opens up about winning a bronze medal at the Paris Olympics
Femke Bol nabbed bronze in the 400m hurdles at the Paris Olympics and recently shared her thoughts on it. She shared a carousel of pictures on her Instagram that carried glimpses of her time during the race. Along with the pictures, she penned a heartfelt note in the caption of her post, expressing her thoughts on the bronze medal. She wrote:
"OLYMPIC BRONZE MEDALIST🥉Gave it my all, left my heart on the track. It’s not the race and result I came for and that hurts. However I’m proud of myself and my team for winning the second individual Olympic medal and for putting it all on the line to not have any regrets."
Opening up about the support she received, she added:
"The stadium that turned orange during the final night was truly magical. Thank you to everyone who was there that night I felt soooo supported: before, during and after the race 🧡 And thank you to the amazing team of people I’m surrounded with, couldn’t do it without all of you ♥️"
Femke Bol, after the 2024 Summer Games, competed in the 400m hurdles at the Lausanne Diamond League, where she won the event with a new meet record of 52.25s and bested Rushell Clayton and Janieve Russell, who claimed second and third place in the event.
