The second day of the World Aquatics Swimming World Cup 2024 took place on Saturday (Oct. 19) at the Oriental Sports Centre in Shanghai. Finals of numerous events such as the men's 200m butterfly, men's 100m freestyle, women's 400m medley, etc., were contested on this second day of the event.

Swimming World Cup Shanghai Day 2: Key moments and recap
The second day of the Swimming World Cup saw Leon Marchand break the 200m medley world cup record. The French swimmer registered a time of 1:50.30 in the finals to beat the likes of Duncan Scott and Noe Ponti to clinch his second title at the event. Merchand won the 100m medley title on the first day of the competition.
Regan Smith, competing in the 100m backstroke, also registered a new World Cup record in the event finals. She clocked a time of 54.89 seconds to clinch her third podium finish in this World Cup. The 22-year-old had already clinched top-three finishes in the 50m backstroke and 200m butterfly events on the first day of the competition.
USA's Trenton Julian also produced an impressive display of skills in the 200m butterfly event. He clocked a time of 1:51.24 to beat South Africa's Chad Le Clos by a margin of just 0.22 seconds.
Kate Douglass added another victory to her Shanghai World Cup campaign by winning the 50m butterfly on the second day of the event. She won the 200m breastroke and 100m medley on Friday.
