The women’s squad for the World Athletics Relays 2024, scheduled in Nassau, Bahamas, on May 4 and May 5, has been revealed by the USATF, the U.S. national track and field governing body.
The event will feature 32 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) in each relay competition. These relays will also work as the qualification event for the Paris Olympics as the best 14 teams (NOCs) in each event will advance for the Summer Games 2024.
Gabby Thomas and Tamari Davis, who contributed to Team USA’s victory at the World Athletics Championships 2023 final by running the third and first legs, will headline the USA in the women’s 4x100m event. Additionally, Tamara Clark and Melissa Jefferson, who were a part of the same team during the heats, have been named to the squad.
Thomas was also a member of the USA’s squad for Tokyo Olympics 2020 that won silver. Meanwhile, the squad also comprises Mikiah Brisco, who played a role in the USA’s win in the discipline in World Relays 2019 held in Yokohama.
The women’s 4x400m team will feature Diamond League 2021 champion Quanera Hayes and the World Indoor Championships 2024 bronze medalist Alexis Holmes. Both athletes have also accomplished numerous achievements in the 4x400m relay in different editions of World Championships (both outdoors and indoors).
Kendall Ellis, a two-time Olympic medalist in the women’s 4x400m (gold) and mixed 4x400m (bronze) at the Tokyo Olympics 2020, will also add strength to the USA’s 4x400 Pool for the World Relays 2024.
Lynna Irby-Jackson’s experience in the 400m relay events across the Olympics, Pan American Games, and World Junior Championships will benefit the USA in the mixed relay event in the World Athletics Relays 2024.
