Karsten Warholm has returned to the track after the conclusion of the 2024 athletics season. The 2024 season witnessed the 400m hurdles world record holder achieve success at the Paris Olympics, the World Athletics Indoor Championships, and the European Athletics Championships.
Warholm kicked off his 2024 season by participating at the World Indoor Championships in the 400m, where he earned a silver medal with a time of 45.34s, only behind Belgium’s Alexander Doom, who won the event with a national record time of 45.25s.
After featuring at the Trond Mohn Games and Oslo Bislett Games, one of the Diamond League meetings, he ran at the prestigious European Championships, taking place in Roma. There, he recorded a time of 46.98s to bag his third gold medal in the 400m hurdles.
Following his successful outings at the World Indoors and European Championships, he appeared at the Paris Olympics in a bid to defend his Olympic title in the 400m hurdles, which he won in Tokyo with the global record. However, he fell short as he collected the silver, after losing to the USA’s Rai Benjamin.
The Norwegian sprinter eventually ended his 2024 campaign after an exhibition race against Mondo Duplantis in the 100m, where he sustained a hamstring injury.
However, Karsten Warholm recently returned to the track ahead of the 2025 season. He shared a glimpse of it on his Instagram handle via story, with a three-word caption:
“Ready to run 🚀”
Additionally, he was seen wearing PUMA shoes with a Red Bull can placed in front of him, both sponsors of the 400m hurdles specialist.
Karsten Warholm reflects on being destined to become a track and field athlete
Karsten Warholm opened up about how he felt destined to become a track and field athlete. In an interaction with Eurosport's Power of the Olympics show before the Paris Olympics, he expressed his thoughts, saying:
"I would say that all people have demons. My demons, they live on the track. On the track is where I get all my stress out, all my feelings out. When you see me run, you can see that I am all in.”
The 28-year-old added:
"I just run with all the emotions that I have in me. On the track, I feel like I'm right where I was supposed to be. It's just a shame I can't run for the rest of my life."
In addition to the aforementioned accomplishments, Warholm is a three-time world champion, having won the 400m hurdles in 2017, 2019, and 2023.
