Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, the reigning 400m hurdles champion, will make her 400m hurdles entry for the first time in 2024, at Edwin Moses Legend Meet in Atlanta. This news broke days after her stellar 200m performance at the 2024 Los Angeles Grand Prix.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is an Olympian with the 400m hurdles world record (50.62s) in her name. She lowered her record four times in 13 months, breaking the 52-second barrier followed by the 51-barrier. She not only added the 400m hurdles medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics but also anchored the 4x400m relay team to the coveted victory.
She opened her 2024 season at the Oxy Invitational, where she earned the 100m hurdles title running in 12.71s. To add more to her repertoire, Mclaughlin-Levrone also finished on top in the 200m (wind-aided 22.38s).

Following the double gold podium, she competed at the recently concluded Los Angeles Grand Prix. Setting a new personal best time of 22.07s in the 200m, the 24-year-old won the dash a fraction away from the world-leading time.
On May 31, the Edwin Moses Legends Meet will fling open its gates for the athletes, among whom Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is a 400m hurdles top seed. The Instagram handle of the Puma American Track League posted a photo of the world record holder, announcing the news of her entry in the 400m hurdles to open the Olympic season.
In 2023, the Olympian ran a world-leading time in the 400m, stopping the clock in 48.74s at the USATF Championships. But citing a knee injury, she was sidelined from the rest of the 2023 competitions, including the World Athletic Championships.
Already having clinched two 200m wins, McLaughlin-Levrone spoke candidly about her satisfaction after setting her personal best.
"Obviously, [there are] things I can always work on, but I think for a PR and second 200m this year; can’t complain,” stated an upbeat McLaughlin-Levrone."

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone will strictly pitch up for the 400m hurdles at the US Track and Field Olympic trials, to secure her second 400m hurdles Olympic berth, as confirmed by NBC. Her coach Bobby Kersee will work toward attaining this goal along with the reigning world champion.
"I think Sydney’s love is the 400m hurdles, and so that’s the number one event. My job is to make sure that she gets ready for the one that she wants to do the most," said Kersee in an interview with NBC Sports.
The Puma ATL hosted Edwin Moses Legends Meet will be held at Morehouse College in Atlanta, the first pro track meet on an HBCU campus.
