After an eight-year hiatus, the World Wrestling Championships returned to the wrestling arena in Tirana, Albania. The World Wrestling Championships commenced on October 28, 2024, and concluded on October 31, 2024.
Nearly 300 wrestlers entered the arena to vie for the title in 12 weight categories, including freestyle, women's wrestling, and Greco-Roman. Although the Championships restricted the entry of 2024 Paris Olympics athletes, it featured other elite wrestlers, including Jordan Burroughs, David Taylor, and Abdulrashid Sadulaev.
The freestyle wrestling featured non-Olympic weight divisions, including 61kg, 70kg, 79kg, and 92kg, while the women's wrestling displayed the 55kg, 59kg, 65kg, and 72kg classes, and the Greco-Roman category showcased e 55kg, 63kg, 72kg, and 82kg categories.

Results of the men's freestyle event at the 2024 World Wrestling Championships
Tokyo 2020 gold medalist David Taylor won a bronze medal in the men's 92 freestyle wrestling category after defeating the Islamic Republic of Iran's Kamran Ghasempour on Thursday, October 31, 2024, with a 6-2 victory by points.
He fell short of competing for the gold medal in the Championships after two-time Olympic champion Abdulrashid Sadulaev dominated the qualification round with a decisive lead of 7-0, pushing the American wrestler into the repechage round and allowing vying for the bronze medal. He defeated Abubakr Abakarov to earn a spot for the bronze medal match.
After navigating a series of injuries and pulling out from competing in the Olympic Trials, the two-time world championships medalist Vitali Arujau collected a bronze medal in the 61kg category.
