Swimming sensation Michael Phelps was in for some fun time when he was asked about competing in figure skating. The former Olympic champion shared his thoughts on the Instagram profile of Team USA.
Team USA's Instagram page conversed with the participants of the US Figure Skating Championships, and asked which athletes could be a part of the sport. The list was hilariously diverse, from someone like Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, to even the iconic gymnast Simone Biles.
When someone asked if Phelps would be a good choice, pat came the reply,
"Michael Phelps. He's got that Dawg in Him!"
Phelps cheekily responded to the remark:
"Woah… it would be comical🤣🤣"
Team USA also joined in the conversation, as the page admin commented:
"@m_phelps00 just say the word 😂"
Phelps took up a coaching assignment a few weeks ago, though not for swimming but flag football. The soon to be 40-year-old swimmer uploaded the same on his Instagram story, writing in the caption:
"Day 1 of coaching 7-8 yr old flag football in the books! Wish us luck"
Interestingly, Phelps has had some experience in coaching. The former Olympic champion had served in the capacity of volunteer coach during his initial days at the University of Michigan, where Bob Bowman mentored him.
Michael Phelps on US Olympic Committee's inability to deal with mental health
Michael Phelps' struggles with mental health have been no secret. The former Olympic champion has been a vocal advocate for mental health, and has even criticized the authorities for their lackadaisical attitude.
In a conversation with sports psychologist Dr. Bhrett McCabe, Phelps said,
“It’s just be you. That’s it. "Because if you’re not being yourself then you’re cheating yourself. Be your authentic self, because that’s the reason why you’re here, right?”
In another interview with NBC, Phelps slammed the US Olympic Committee for not acting enough on mental support. In his words:
"I walked into training rooms at the USOC and couldn’t get care … The athletes need to be first. The ABC organizations have taken some steps in the right direction to get help and care that us athletes need, but they are not doing everything they can, and that upsets me. I want to seem them put the athletes first."
Michael Phelps is the most decorated Olympian ever, with a total of 28 medals, including 23 Olympic gold medals. He made his Olympic debut at Sydney Olympics in 2000 and retired from swimming after his final appearance at the Rio Olympics in 2016.
