Yohan Blake will not be competing at the Paris Olympics after failing to qualify for what would have been his fourth Summer Games. With him being a four-time Olympic medalist, it was a huge disappointment for the 34-year-old and his supporters.
Nonetheless, Blake is one of Jamaica's most celebrated Olympians, having won two gold and two silver medals. He is also a two-time world champion, and has two Diamond League ttitles to his name. However, as per his revelation in Asafa Powell's podcast recently, sprinting was not always his focus. Initially his father wanted him to pursue cricket as he struggled academically. Let's dive deep and find out more about Yohan Blake's career, his top victories, and more.
Yohan Blake's net worth
Yohan Blake has multimillion-dollar deals with giants like Adidas, Puma, and Wisynco Group. In addition, he also has his own drinking water brand called "Revierie Purified Water." All these lucrative deals and prize money from various competitions have contributed to his net worth, which stands at $2 million (as per Athletics Weekly's 2024 report).
His track and field career
Blake started sprinting at an early age and broke onto the scene at the 2007 CARIFTA Games after clocking 10.11 seconds at a 100m event. It was the fastest time run by a junior Jamaican sprinter at the time. During the 2011 World Championships, Blake became the youngest 100m world champion after defeating Carl Lewis with a time of 9.92 seconds.
The following year, the St. James Parish-born athlete participated in an Olympic event for the first time in London and won three medals. He won two silvers in both the 100m and 200m disciplines, finishing second in each race behind compatriot Usain Bolt.
Blake then went on to win his first Olympic gold at the London Games, helping Jamaica win the 4x100m relay. In his second quadrennial games in Rio, he secured gold once again in the 4x100m relay, but did not win a medal in any of the individual categories. He then had a forgettable outing at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where he again failed to secure any medals.
Yohan Blake's family

Some of his best performances
Yohan Blake was considered a threat to Usain Bolt's dominance during his prime, and he showed his ability after defeating his compatriot twice at the 2012 London Olympic Trials. In the 100m finals at the trials, he finished the race in 9.75 seconds, while Bolt placed second with 9.86 seconds. When the two met in the 200m finals, Blake replicated his 100m success and won the race in 19.80 seconds, while Bolt clocked 19.83 seconds to finish in second place.
He also holds the title of second-fastest ever 200m time, having run the distance in just 19.26 seconds. He clocked that time at the Brussels Diamond League in 2011. During the 2012 Athletissima Diamond League meet in Lausanne, Blake became the joint second-fastest 100m runner with a time of 9.69 seconds, tied with America's Tyson Gay.
