Noah Lyles has teased a rematch with IShowSpeed after he beat the streamer in a 50m race last month. While the Olympic gold medalist comfortably won, the YouTuber argued that the race was close and demanded a rematch.
Lyles got off the blocks slightly slower than IShowSpeed, but quickly caught up with him and was dancing and throwing his arms around before crossing the finish line. Explaining his show-boating during an appearance on Beyond The Records Podcast, Lyles suggested it was necessary to make the race appear close and hinted at a rematch.
"I threw my arms around and because again if I finish the race by beating him so bad nobody is going to want to see a rematch," Noah Lyles said. [47:35 onwards]
The 100m world champion also claimed his coach told him to put IShowSpeed in 'the dirt' but he deliberately shortened the race to 50m so that the race would become interesting and appear closer.
"I know people don't want to see a blowout. I got coach in the back like you need to make sure it's 100 and you need to put this man in the dirt. But in my head, I'm like that's not entertaining coach. People are gonna see that and be like oh well that's all right. But if I make it 50, I can make it close enough to where I don't have to try as hard but I can still make it close," he added [46:00]
The race was set up by YouTuber Mr. Beast with a prize money of $100k, which Lyles donated to his own foundation. The two-time Olympian also did a race over 200m in MrBeast's video.
Noah Lyles responds to IShowSpeed mocking his running face during the race
Following IShowSpeed's claims that the race was close, Noah Lyles claimed he had only run at his 20%. Reacting to the sprinter's comments during one of his live streams on YouTube, IShowSpeed played the video of their race at 0.25x speed and mocked the sprinter.
"Look at his face," Speed said. "Look at Noah's face."
"This is serious. I'm about to put it in slow motion bro. Are you telling me he was going 20%? When you run 20% you don't look like this (imitating Lyles)."
The 100m Olympic champion responded to Speed's jab at him during the aforementioned podcast and pointed out that after the streamer mocked his running face, he realized he had messed up when he saw Lyles had been looking at him during the race.
"Then guess what, he put it a few frames more and I look at him and he's like oh I might have messed up. That was priceless. I was laughing so hard when he froze that thing cause I knew that somebody was eventually going to catch that, me looking at him," Noah Lyles said. [47:00]
Alongside the streamer, Lyles was also challenged for a race by NFL wide receiver Tyreek Hill and he eventually accepted. The two are expected to race over a 50-yard distance in spring 2025.
