Usain Bolt once lashed out at Yohan Blake and other Jamaican athletes for disrespecting coach Glen Mills after leaving the club following disappointing performances in major track races. The legendary athlete urged athletes not to blame the coach for their mistakes.
The video of Usain Bolt lashing out at athletes resurfaced on the internet after Yohan Blake made comments on lacking respect from his country, Jamaica.
“My head is all over the place right now because what I wanted to do at Jamaican Trials I didn't get to do. I did want to run my final Olympics. I didn't get to but the journey continues same way. Definitely it would be my final Olympics. You know as I said, my own country Jamaica doesn't give me the respect and I'm happy they don't because other people outside do and they appreciate me more than my own country," he expressed.
In an interview taken in 2019, Usain Bolt spoke to the media about athletes blaming his coach Glen Mills for their failures, whereas, they made several mistakes that ultimately led to the situation.
"For instance, I might say Yohan Blake, when he got injured and the coach [would] say, ‘This is the direction that I want us to go,’ then Yohan Blake [would] decide that, ‘No, this not what I want to do, and I’m going to do something else,'"he said. (1:18)
Although the coach said ‘X’, he decided to do ‘Y’. They’re not going to tell you all these things, but they’re comfortable to disrespect the coach and let the coach look bad. It’s very upsetting to see because I believe in my coach,” Bolt added.
Moreover, Bolt stressed the importance of athletes respecting their coaches who helped them elevate their performances to the top level.
Yohan Blake on training with Usain Bolt
Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake trained at the Racers Track Club in Kingston, Jamaica, under the guidance of coach Glen Mills. They were training partners for a long time before Bolt retired from the sport after the 2017 World Championships.
Yohan Blake spoke about training with Bolt and pushing his limits to the utmost level to achieve greatness in the sport. In an interview with CGTN Sports Scene, he said:
"Yeah, it was because of Usain. The way I train in training and because we used the train for over eight or ten years and, he would see how hard I worked and he has to work hard when he is working with me." (0:15)
Yohan Blake finished last in the London Diamond League earlier this week after clocking 10.23s, marking an end to his early outdoor before the Paris Olympics.
