Former American swimmer Riley Gaines recently condemned the Daily Mail for its headline regarding Donald Trump's granddaughter Kai Trump. Gaines, who turned political activist after retirement, has been a vocal supporter of Trump throughout his election campaign.
Trump recently won the U.S. presidential election and will serve as the 47th President of the United States, marking a second, non-consecutive, term. He defeated Kamala Harris, who replaced Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee just weeks before the elections. Trump surpassed the required 270 electoral votes by securing 277 votes, while Harris ended up with 224.
After winning the elections, Donald Trump was joined by family and friends to celebrate his victory. His granddaughter, Kai Trump, a social media personality, also attended the event wearing a black sequin dress. The Daily Mail shared a picture of Trump and his granddaughter on X (formerly Twitter), noting its $59 price tag, writing:
"Kai Trump wears $7,000 Rolex with $59 Nordstrom sequin dress at grandfather Donald's election victory party."
Condemning the tweet, Riley Gaines said,
"What kind of headline is this? Kai looks beautiful. @MailOnline you're a joke."
In addition to her support for Kai, Riley Gaines was one of the high-profile figures who actively campaigned and voiced their support for Trump. Leading up to the election, Gaines encouraged voters to vote for Trump. Ahead of Election Day, in a video posted on X (formerly Twitter), Gaines said,
"For real, men, Donald Trump took a bullet for you. The least you could do is vote for the man. Vote like your country was taken from you, because it was. We need you men to go out and vote to make America affordable again, to make America safe again, to make America healthy again. To make America great again."
Riley Gaines shares locker room experience with transgender swimmer at Donald Trump's rally
During her speech at Donald Trump's rally in Georgia in October, Riley Gaines took the stage before Trump and recalled the "humiliation" she faced during her competitive days as she had to share her locker room with a transgender athlete. She said (via Fox News),
"I could share the grotesque details of what it was like being forced to undress, inches away from a 6-foot-4 man who watched us strip down to nothing, while he did the same, exposing his fully-intact naked male body. There are no words to describe the violation and the betrayal, the humiliation that we felt."
In addition to this, Gaines is a strong advocate for women's rights and has opposed the participation of transgender athletes in women's sports. She has filed a lawsuit against the NCAA for violating women's rights.
