In 1994, Lance Brauman started his career as an assistant coach at Auburn University. A year later, he changed jobs to Barton County Community College. Lance Brauman Early life, Controversies, and Imprisonment
Early in his Career as a coach, Lance Brauman got involved in cases of fraud and malpractices during his time at Barton County Community College. The American was found guilty of one count of embezzlement, three counts of mail fraud and one count of theft as per which, the athletes were illegally paid through a scheme for the work they never did. The fraud malpractice had been happening in Barton even before the arrival of Lance Brauman and they continued it as if it was a normal practice.
The judgement came when he was coaching Tyson Gay, years after he left Barton. As a result, Lance Brauman had to resign from his coaching job at the University Of Arkansas after serving four years.
In 2007, after serving more than nine months in the federal prison in Texarkana, Texas, Lance Brauman was out of prison and went straight back to coaching sprinters. He contacted Tyson Gay through phone in his prison days and committed to his coaching responsibilities even through his rough times in life. That year, Tyson Gay dedicated his 100m gold medal at the 2007 World Championships in Osaka to Lance Brauman.
