The Olympic Games are one of the most famous international multi-sport events in the world as of 2024. Ever since it was inaugurated in 1896, this event has seen the inclusion of several sports, which had only increased over the years. Notably, in 1986, the Olympics were only a 42 event competition. From thereon, it became a 339 event competition in 2021 and will further increase to 392 events in 2024.


Some of the sports that have enjoyed the most popularity at the Olympics include archery, badminton, basketball, 3x3 basketball, swimming, cycling, table tennis, football, field hockey, equestrian, table tennis, water polo, gymnastics, shooting, rugby, wrestling and others. These sports have introduced both well-known and upcoming athletes who have since then created a name for themselves in their respective sports.


The 2024 edition of the Summer Olympics will also have a lot of different sports with around 10,500 competitors participating in the games. Remarkably, it will be the third time that Paris will be hosting the Summer Olympics and will be the sixth Olympic Games to be hosted on French soil.


List of New Sports added in Paris Olympics 2024

The 2024 Summer Olympics are all set to host the sports that the audience have loved over the years. However, a new sport is also set to make its debut at the Olympics these year. The new sport is breaking, also called as break-dancing.


Breaking

Breaking, also notable by the name of breakdancing, is an urban style of dancing that had its roots in the hip-hop culture in the Bronx borough of New York in the 1970s. It is notable for the role of the DJ and MC along with the acrobatic movements and stylized footwork of the participants. Prior to this, the sport was a part of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.


Notably, Team USA Breaking team consists of Victor Montalvo (B-Boy Victor), Sunny Choi (B-Girl Sunny), Miguel Rasario (B-Boy Gravity), Emily Chang (B-Girl La Vix), Jeffrey Louis (B-Boy Jeffro) and Logan Edra (B-Girl Logistix).
