Payton Jacobson is an American wrestler, who is currently ranked as no.1 at 87 kg weight class in the 2024-25 Team USA. He is a Elkhorn, Wisconsin resident who was born on September 12, 2002, and has completed two years on Team USA. He pursued high-school wrestling at Elkhorn Area High School and pursued his collegiate wrestling career at Northern Michigan.

He wrestled in folkstyle initially, but eventually shifted to wrestle Greco-Roman full time, and then went to Northern Michigan University to participate in their Greco-Roman training program. He has delivered some notable performances in his career, starting from his performance at the U23 and U20 world championships. He competed in the 77 kg weight class in both the championships.

Jacobson has squared off in multiple prestigious competitions such as Pan American Championships, Cadet Nationals, Grand Prix of Germany, US Open Championships, and several others.

He achieved a bronze medal at the 2018 UWW Cadet Nationals, he nabbed another bronze at the 2018 National Plains Regional Freestyle and at the 2018 Northern Plains Regional Greco-Roman. He recently competed at the 2024 US Olympic trials and qualified for the Paris Olympics to compete in the 87 kg division. He bested Spencer Woods in the finals and punched his tickets to make his debut at the Olympic stage.

One of the biggest inspirations of Jacobson is the American footballer, Walter Payton and he’s the wrestler’s namesake. Even though he never met his inspiration, he still had his picture up in his room.
