Payton Otterdahl, born on April 2, 1996, in Rosemount, Minnesota, is an American shot putter. Otterdahl represented the United States of America in athletics, in the 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympics, held in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Otterdahl went to Rosemount High School. In 2014, he joined North Dakota State University, Otterdahl achieved NCAA titles in indoor throwing events in his senior season. This made him the only 2nd man to win the shot put and weight throw at the NCAA Championships. In 2019, Otterdahl recorded his personal best with 21.81 m and secured the 25th place in the new IAAF World Rankings.
Under the coaching of Justin StClair, on April 24, 2024, at Drake Relays, Des Moines, Payton recorded 22.59 m as his personal best. On June 18, 2021, at the 2020 US Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon, Payton secured the 3rd place. In the 2024 US Olympic Trails held in June 2024, he secured third place by registering 22.26 m.
