Baker went to Fairmount State University where he played collegiate football as a wide receiver and later pursued his dream of playing in the NFL. He went undrafted but was signed by the Philadelphia Eagles as a prospect in 2011. However, his NFL journey was cut short after he sustained a torn meniscus and was eventually cut from the Eagles roster.
Baker spent the next two years with the Pittsburgh Power of the Arena Football League before transitioning to rugby in 2013. He spent a year at the Tiger Rugby Academy where he learned the intricacies of the sport. Baker made his World Rugby Sevens Series debut in 2014 and already earned his name in the World Rugby's Rookie of the Year shortlist following the 2014-15 campaign.
