Sha'Carri Richardson was spotted enjoying her training in high spirits ahead of her first appearance after the Paris Olympics at the Zurich Diamond League. The reigning world champion competed in her maiden Olympic Games, winning a gold and a silver medal.
Richardson was all set to compete in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics after winning the Olympic trials in 10.86s. However, she tested positive for marijuana and received a one-month suspension, ending her dream to compete in the Olympics.
However, the 24-year-old has had a clean history following the one-off incident, which she claimed happened because she was trying to cope with the death of her biological mother. Richardson made a roaring comeback at the Paris Olympics 2024, winning a gold medal in the women's 4x100m relay and a silver in the 100m dash.
Nearly three weeks after the Olympics concluded, Sha'Carri Richardson will make her first appearance at the Zurich Diamond League on September 4.
Ahead of the highly anticipated clash, the Olympic medalist looked in high spirits in a video posted on her Instagram story. Richardson was vibing to a rap song by American rapper JT.
Richardson will face Julian Alfred for the first time after losing to her at the Paris Olympics 2024. The American sprinter was the overwhelming favorite heading into the 100m finals, but couldn't execute her race in the final as Alfred ran away with Saint Lucia’s first Olympic gold medal. Alongside the 100m Olympic champion, Great Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith will also be part of the race.
Sha'Carri Richardson followed up the relatively disappointing 100m race with a blistering run in the 4x100m relay
By no means is winning a silver medal at the Olympic Games a small feat but in Sha'Carri Richardson’s case, it felt relatively smaller given the confidence and hype she entered the Games with.
Julian Alfred won the gold medal in 10.72s, a time slower than Richardson had clocked a month ago at the Olympic Trials. She had a bad start in the finals, and despite her blistering top speed, she couldn't catch Alfred, settling for silver in 10.87s.
However, Richardson looked a different self in the 4x100m relay final. After receiving the baton from Gabby Thomas, the reigning world champion was in fourth place. Richardson sprung into her stride quickly, and moments later, the 24-year-old was in front, staring down the field several meters before the finish line to win the gold medal.
