Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone once revealed that she felt 'convicted' after sharing an apartment with her husband Andre Levrone following their engagement in 2021. The pair later tied the knot in May 2022.
McLaughlin-Levrone met Andre through the social media platform Instagram in early 2020. While it was the former NFL player who made the first move by following and messaging her, the American hurdler was equally interested in him.
The couple got engaged in August 2021 following the conclusion of the Tokyo Olympics, where Mclaughlin-Levrone won two gold medals. Following their engagement, the pair began living together in an apartment in Los Angeles.
While they had separate bedrooms for each other, McLaughlin-Levrone was worried about sharing an apartment.
"'Is this right?' I asked Andre, not for the first time. 'Should we be sharing an apartment before we are married? I truly feel convicted about this, and it has not eased up at all," she recalled in her 2024 memoir 'Far Beyond Gold: Running from Fear to Faith'.
Sharing the reasons behind her decisions, McLaughlin-Levrone said she wanted to protect her 'sexual purity'.
"Most people in this modern world don’t have a problem with sharing a bed or sleeping together before marriage. But Andre and I had committed to saving both of those things until our wedding day. From the beginning of our relationship, Andre and I both confessed that we had fallen short in the past when it came to our sexual purity. We wanted to ensure that we honored God by following what the Bible teaches about relationships between men and women," she explained.
The couple were counseled by a pastor in the following days with Andre eventually moving out of the apartment. They didn't live together until their marriage in May 2022.
Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone reveals the first DM from her husband Andre Levrone
Recalling the initial days of their relationship in her book, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone revealed that she randomly posted a selfie on her Instagram handle one day, captioning it with 'attention', a reference to the song she was listening to at the time.
"I wasn’t trying to get Andre’s attention. Or anyone else’s, for that matter. I was just being a little creative," she wrote.
The creative caption resulted in a creative first DM from Andre, who wrote:
“You have my attention. How can I get yours?”
