During the US Olympic Trials in June, legendary American rapper and record producer Snoop Dogg lauded the current Olympic champion Noah Lyles for his efforts in transforming the sport. The rapper even shared a lighthearted moment with the Lyles brothers, where he was seen showcasing his sprinting skills in front of the sprinting duo.
During the trials, the 52-year-old musician sat down for an interview with USA Track and Field on their YouTube channel and was asked about his views on Noah Lyles. In response, he admired the 27-year-old Olympian for his personality that goes beyond the sport and also praised him for his boldness and self-confidence.
"I think Noah's got the it factor; certain people got that factor that transcends bigger than their sport. I think he could be an actor. I think he could do different things. He's got so much personality and so much energy, and he's willing to take chances, and I like his attitude, the confidence, and the cockiness," Snoop Dogg said (3:05 onwards).
"I like that, and that can take you far in this world outside of your sport. I feel like he has all those traits comes with doing things outside of the box," he added.
"I want to show people how far they can really go" - When Noah Lyles commented on wanting to inspire others
In an exclusive interview with Olympics.com just after his World Championship victory in August 2023, Noah Lyles said that he wants to inspire others to reach their full potential in the sport and not just limit themselves to sport-related metrics such as medals.
"I want to show people how far they can really go. I don’t want them to stop at medals. Yes, medals are nice, they get your attention. That should be the first stopping point, that should be the first check off the box. After you go to medals, now you go to moving outside of the sport. After you’re outside of the sport, we go and reinvent ourselves," Lyles said.
During the 2024 Paris Olympics, Noah Lyles claimed his first Olympic gold after winning the 100m finals with a time of 9.79 seconds before clinching the bronze medal in the 200m event.
