Justin Gatlin talked about an imaginary 4x400m relay team featuring New Balance athletes such as Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Femke Bol. The two star runners had a terrific showdown at the Paris Olympics in the 400m hurdles event, in which the win was nabbed by the former.
The American set a new world record of 50.37s at the Paris Olympics breaking her own previous mark, besting Anna Cockrell and Femke Bol who secured second and third place, registering a time of 51.87s and 52.15s, respectively.
Days after this feat, the former track and field athlete, Justin Gatlin, spoke about both athletes potentially running on the same team in the 4x400m relay event in a hypothetical competition between shoe companies.
In his podcast, 'Ready Set Go', Gatlin opened about the potential teamup of McLaughlin-Levrone and Bol, both being New Balance athletes. Rodney Green stated that New Balance would definitely win, as the athletes associated with the brand are top-notch.
"For the female side, I just know in the 4x400m relay, everybody else losing. New Balance got Femke Bol, they got Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, they got Gabby Thomas, and they got Kendall Ellis, they done, they ain't no shoe company they line with whatever they want up, they not beating new balance, I know that for a fact," said Green. Following this, Gatlin commended the pair-up of Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and Bol.
"I would love to see that 4x400m, that would be a great 4x400 to see. Can you imagine watching Sydney hand to Femkey or Femkey hand to Sydney, and the gap they create, they probably going to make a 100m gap," said Gatlin.
The 25-year-old won two golds at the Paris Olympics in the 400m hurdles and the 4x400m relay dashes.
