Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is one of the greatest track athletes to grace the sport. Since turning professional in 2018, the American hurdler and sprinter has consistently showcased her dominance to the world and displayed the potential to reach greater heights and shatter more records.

After missing out on a chance to defend her 400m hurdles title at the 2023 World Championships and ending her season early due to a knee injury, McLaughlin-Levrone had a memorable 2024 campaign as she not only accomplished a remarkable run on the track but also received notable awards and honors for her performances.

#5 Two invitational titles on Diamond League comeback

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone made her comeback to the Diamond League circuit in 2024 at the Brussels Diamond League, where she competed in both the 200m and 400m invitational events. Her comeback was remarkable as she won both races, finishing first with times of 22.40s in the 200m and 49.11s in the 400m. Notably, these were also her final races of the 2024 season.

Before the Brussels Diamond League, Levrone last competed in a Diamond League meeting in June 2023 at the Meeting de Paris, where she finished second in the 400m with a time of 49.71s.


#4 Inducted into the University of Kentucky’s Athletics Hall of Fame

The 25-year-old was honored by her alma mater, the University of Kentucky, as she was inducted into their Athletics Hall of Fame - Class of 2024, in September. Fellow track star Jasmine Camacho-Quinn was also inducted into the Hall of Fame, along with John Cropp, Henrik Larsen, Jodie Meeks, and Corey Peters.

After graduating from Union Catholic Regional School, McLaughlin-Levrone became part of UK Athletics in 2017. Under the guidance of coach Edrick Floréal, she competed in Division I events before deciding to turn professional in June 2018.


#3 Fifth global record at U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials 2024

At the 2024 U.S. Olympic Track and Field Trials, McLaughlin-Levrone achieved a remarkable feat by breaking her own world record in the 400m hurdles final. She did so with a blistering time of 50.65s, securing her place in her third consecutive Olympic Games and replicating the accomplishment she made at the U.S. Olympic Trials for Tokyo.

At the Tokyo Olympic Trials, the American clocked 51.90s to break the world record, which had previously been held by fellow American Dalilah Muhammad.


#2 World Athletics Female Track Athlete of The Year

Following her successful 2024 campaign, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone was named the World Athletics’ Female Track Athlete of the Year. She beat the 100m Olympic champion Julien Alfred to claim this prestigious honor at the World Athletics Awards in Monaco held this year.

Earlier, McLaughlin-Levrone and Alfred had surpassed other top track performers of the season, including Beatrice Chebet, Faith Kipyegon, Marileidy Paulino, and Gabby Thomas to become the finalists for the award.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone once again proved why she is hailed as one of the greatest track athletes of all time by adding two more gold medals to her Olympic tally. She delivered a record-breaking performance in the 400m hurdles discipline by smashing the world record for the sixth time with a 50.37s run.

Following her remarkable feat in her signature event, she contributed significantly to the USA's American record in the 4x400m relay as the team achieved a 3:15.27, with McLaughlin-Levrone having the fastest 400m split among all athletes in the race, clocking 47.71s.
