Caeleb Dressel started his Paris Olympics 2024 campaign by competing in the men's 4x100m relay and has contributed to Team USA's third consecutive Olympic gold medal in the event. He is now scheduled to compete in the men's 50m freestyle and 100m butterfly.

Dressel's 48.19s anchor in the 4x100m relay semifinals contributed to the USA's entry in the finals, where he swam the anchor leg again. Following an incredible 3rd leg split of 46.75s by Hunter Armstrong, the eight-time Olympic gold medalist held the lead until the finish line to earn the USA its gold, splitting 47.53s.

Dressel clocked a time of 21.58 seconds in the 50m freestyle semifinals on August 1 and is now scheduled to compete in the finals on August 3. The defending Olympic champion will be in action at 2:30 p.m. EST. In addition, he is scheduled to compete in the semifinals of the men's 100m butterfly on August 2 at 3:05 p.m., about half an hour later. All of his swims can be streamed live on NBC and Peacock.

Caeleb Dressel calls winning the gold medal in front of his newborn son a ‘really special’ feeling

Caeleb Dressel has only won gold medals in his career at the Olympic Games. When he won his eighth at the Paris Olympics in the men's 4x100m relay, it was a special moment for him, since he won it in front of his five-month-old son, August Wilder. He said (via AP News):

“It’s really special. Making the team in front of him and then winning a gold in front of him, just checking little boxes that I never would have thought to create throughout my career. So that was a really special one tonight.”

Notably, of the eight gold medals Dressel has won, five have been in the relays, making the event "more special" for him.

“Relays are a little more special to be honest. So, doing it with these guys has been awesome. It takes me back to my first gold. It really doesn’t get old. Really special standing on the podium with these guys watching the flag go up. I’m extremely proud of them. It made my job easy," he added.

Dressel is among the favorites to win the gold in the men's 50m freestyle as well as the men's 100m butterfly and will become only the second American athlete with 10 Olympic gold medals if he wins both this year.
