Kishane Thompson competed alongside a star-studded lineup, including Noah Lyles, Fred Kerley, Marcell Jacobs, and Kenny Bednarek in the men's 100m at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Thompson narrowly missed earning a gold medal after finishing the race behind Lyles with a razor-thin gap of five one-thousandths of a second.
While Lyles clocked a stunning time of 9.79 (.784), Thompson settled behind him after posting 9.79 (.789). This thrilling moment was covered in Netflix's Sprint docuseries season 2 released on November 13, 2024.
In one of the behind-the-scenes shown in episode 4 of the series, while Lyles was seen being radiant with happiness, the Jamaican sprinter was overcoming disappointment. His coach Stephen Francis was seen weighing in, pacifying Thompson, and suggesting his performance was negatively affected by his start, possibly indicating that he did not get the required push off the blocks and narrowly missed out on the gold medal to the American sprinter.
"Your blocks let you down," Coach Francis said to Thompson. (6:10 onwards)
Francis is the head coach of the MVP track club based at the University of Technology in St.Andrew, Jamaica. In addition to Thompson, Coach Francis has mentored a roster of elite athletes, including Shericka Jackson, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, and Asafa Powell. He has also trained the 400m athlete Shericka Williams and high jumper Germaine Mason.
