Mark Cuban, the billionaire businessman and Shark Tank investor, believes the 60s can feel as youthful as the 40s. In an interview featured in the anti-aging science documentary Longevity Hackers, streaming on Amazon and Apple TV on December 4, 2024, Cuban shared his perspective on aging.
"60s are the new 40s...You see guys my age in their 60s that can look good, can be fit, and not be limited in terms of things that they do," Cuban stated.
At the age of 66, the Shark Tank investor feels much younger than he could biologically because of a combination of exercising, diet, and some supplements that help him live fit and healthy.
Shark Tank investor Mark Cuban's 3 key habits for maintaining youthfulness in his 60s
1) Early morning routine
Mark Cuban’s mornings prioritize simplicity and productivity. His day starts around 6:30 to 7 am, during which he dedicates approximately an hour to answering emails before he rises from bed.
In a January 2024 interview on Trevor Noah's What Now? podcast, Cuban explained that organizing his emails early helps streamline his day and reduces unnecessary calls and meetings. He prefers concise communication. Cuban acknowledged that this level of control over his schedule is a privilege, adding,
“The whole value of being in this position is just being able to control your time. It’s the one asset you can’t control.”
After his early start, Cuban consistently follows a routine that includes breakfast, exercise, and checking his inbox again.
“Rinse and repeat,” he stated.
2) Regular exercise and walking
Exercise plays a central role in Mark Cuban's routine. He underscored the importance of staying active for healthy aging, stating:
"I actually work out more now than I did 10 years ago or 15 years ago because my body needs it more."
Cuban emphasized that his workout sessions last between 45 to 90 minutes, incorporating plenty of cardio. Additionally, he stays active during long workdays, such as when filming Shark Tank. He explained:
"Everybody else is taking the carts, the set is .35 miles away, and I'm walking back and forth, so I'm walking 2 miles a day while we're shooting Shark Tank."
Dr. Suzanne Steinbaum, a preventative cardiologist, author, and collaborator in Bayer Aspirin's research, emphasizes that prioritizing walking and regular physical activity supports the idea that even modest increases in daily steps, like an additional 500 steps, can enhance overall health and extend lifespan.
3) Vegetarian diet
Cuban adopted a vegetarian diet in 2019, and he emphasized that food plays a critical role in health as people age. He highlighted:
"When you get older, food becomes more like medicine where you need the nutrients in order to be able to be your best self."
A plant-based diet that includes plenty of vegetables, whole grains, nuts, and legumes is associated with a reduced risk of chronic illnesses and may promote a longer lifespan. Cuban emphasized that his diet makes a noticeable difference in how his body functions:
"What I eat really makes a difference in how everything in my body operates."
However, he also acknowledged the challenge of finding suitable dining options with others. He said:
"It can be weird when you're with a bunch of guys going to a steakhouse."
New episodes of Shark Tank air on Fridays at 8 PM ET on ABC and are available to stream on Hulu.
