The Real Housewives of Orange County season 18 aired from July 11, 2024 to November 21, 2024 on Bravo, focusing on the lavish lives of women residing in Southern California. The RHOC star Katie Ginella recently opened up about her experiences on the reality show.
During an interview with Decider on September 19, 2024, she discussed the drama she faced with co-stars, Gina Kirchenheiter and Heather Dubrow, during season 18 which marked Katie's debut.
She admitted that her journey had been challenging, but she managed to navigate the difficulties since her family had also been affected by her appearance on the show. Katie's seven-year-old son, Brandon, enjoyed seeing himself on TV. However, Katie and her husband limited his exposure to the show, only allowing him to watch his own scenes.
“It’s been a little daunting, but I got through it. I made it. My husband’s been on TV for a really long time, so I think it was kind of natural for him," stated Katie.
The Real Housewives of Orange County star Katie didn't expect a conflict with Gina
Katie shared in the interview that before joining The Real Housewives of Orange County, she received advice from her fellow cast members, including Sutton Stracke from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Sutton and Gina, another co-star, told Katie to be her authentic self as it would make her experience on the show easier.
Katie joined the show as Gina's friend, but their friendship was put to the test during filming. Katie brought up a rumor about Heather calling the paparazzi on herself, which caused tension between them.
Looking back, The Real Housewives of Orange County star Katie acknowledged that she didn't anticipate the drama that had unfolded onscreen. She believed that friendships can have their ups and downs, and she and Gina were navigating their way through a challenging time.
“I did not see that coming. But, you know, I think that’s kind of how it goes with friendships. Sometimes you have peaks and valleys. And we went through a lot of peaks and valleys. But we’re seeing our way through it,” she explained.
Katie also reflected on a comment she made, suggesting that Gina was using Heather for her real estate connections. At the time, Katie didn't think her remark was surprising, as Heather had many wealthy friends which could benefit Gina's growing business. Despite the challenges they faced during the filming of The Real Housewives of Orange County, Katie shared that she and Gina are currently on good terms.
Katie Ginella and Heather Dubrow clashed over what was said by Katie's daughter
The season 18 finale of The Real Housewives of Orange County featured a confrontation between Heather Dubrow and Katie Ginella. The episode began with Emily Simpson addressing a rumor surrounding Katie's daughter Kaili, who allegedly made dismissive comments about Heather while babysitting Emily's twin sons.
Emily claimed that her children repeated Kaili's remarks, stating that Heather was mean. However, Kaili previously recounted a different version of events, suggesting that the children brought up Heather's behavior on their own. The disagreement escalated as Emily insisted her children were telling the truth, while Kaili maintained she did not fabricate the story.
"Why would I make that up? I thought it was so funny and I was like, 'I think she's kinda mean to my mom too.' So, we bonded," remarked Kaili.
Meanwhile, a flashback revealed Katie's 7-year-old son Brandon sharing his own thoughts on Heather during a family dinner. He asked his mother if Heather was being a jerk again. Later, Katie attempted to downplay the situation, describing it as a lighthearted mother-daughter moment.
However, Heather was unconvinced and confronted Katie, accusing her of lying and coming after her. The tension between the two women soared as Katie accused Heather of trying to silence her. Heather responded by explaining why she had never liked Katie, citing her perceived dishonesty and lack of interest.
