The Golden Bachelorette, a spinoff series from The Bachelor franchise, premiered on September 18, 2024. On this show, participants in their 50s and 60s can find love again. One of the fan-favorite contestants on the show, 66-year-old emergency room doctor Guy Gansert, took to his Instagram account to address a personal matter.
As per court documents obtained by The U.S. Sun, Gansert's ex-wife, Heidi O’Gara, had filed for a restraining order against him in 2021. However, this documentation was temporary and was dismissed even before it was ready to be implemented. Addressing this situation that resurfaced recently, The Golden Bachelorette contestant took to Instagram on October 10, 2024.
He stated that the restraining order didn't "represent" who he was as a person, and the end of 34 years of marriage was a "very low point" in his life. Gansert continued:
"My ex-wife and I were married for 34 years and in that time had four children who we raised together and deeply love. They are my greatest accomplishment. My divorce was extremely difficult for me and led me to a very low point in my life and as a result I acted in a way that does not represent who I am."

The Golden Bachelorette contestant further mentioned that the situation between him and his ex-wife was resolved as she "voluntarily" dismissed the restraining order. Without revealing details of their split, Gansert expressed gratitude and love for her former spouse and them expanding their family together. He stated:
“This was an unfortunate situation that occurred during an incredibly stressful time for me and my former spouse and was ultimately resolved when she voluntary [sic] dismissed her request for a protective order. Together we crafted a resolution that was agreeable to both parties."
Gansert continued by thanking The Golden Bachelorette and Bachelor Nation fans for their unconditional support and the love they have given him. He reflected on the time since he and his ex-wife divorced, saying it allowed him to focus on his weaknesses and work towards improving as a human being. Despite the divorce being a difficult phase in his life, Gansert shared that it taught him how to evaluate his character and put in the effort to correct his mistakes.
The Golden Bachelorette cast member said:
"The past few years have caused me to conduct a deep personal evaluation, and I will always continue to work to improve myself. I am so appreciative of The Golden Bachelorette and Bachelor Nation as well as my family, who have been exceptionally supportive during the most difficult times of my life. I am eternally grateful for them."
Toward the end of his statement, Gansert admitted that it was his responsibility to acknowledge his errors being in the "public eye." He and his ex-wife wanted to resolve matters privately:
"My ex-wife and I recently asked the court to seal her application for the protective order as we had hoped to maintain privacy for our family. But, I know that with being in the public eye comes responsibility."
The newly released episodes of The Golden Bachelorette are available to stream every week on Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
