Dance Moms: A New Era is a new spin-off that made its way to Hulu on August 7, 2024. All of its 10 episodes were released together and saw several mom-daughter duos taking careful steps for a flourishing dance career. In an interview with US Weekly, published on August 1, JoJo Siwa talked about the decision to replace longtime coach, Abby Lee Miller.
Abby, who coached the young girls for nine seasons of Dance Moms was replaced by Glo Hampton, for this new spin-off. However, JoJo Siwa, who found her initial fame by starring in the original show in two seasons from 2015 to 2016, didn't like the fact that Glo was the new instructor.
In the interview, JoJo quoted Abby first saying:
"Even though Abby says the quote, 'Everyone's replaceable,' Abby Lee is not replaceable. The only person that is not replaceable is the inventor of that quote".
What else did Dance Moms fame JoJo Siwa say about Glo Hampton replacing Abby Lee Miller as the coach?
JoJo Siwa gave a US Weekly interview when she was promoting her new movie, AMFD or All My Friends are Dead. JoJo expressed disdain when she was asked about what she thought of Glo. She said that seeing Abby being replaced as the coach of the new set of students made her, "sick to my stomach".
Siwa then talked about the famous pyramid ranking approach of Abby that she used in her seasons of Dance Moms. JoJo said:
"I think that [Dance Moms: A New Era] would have a lot more success if Glo was Glo, not if Glo was Abby. I think, realistically, Glo would not do a pyramid. She would not say, 'There’s six weeks 'till nationals.’'She would not use the exact Abby lingo".
Siwa then spoke highly of her former dance teacher and rooted for her right before Dance Moms: A New Era was about to premiere. She said that it was hard for her to see Glo trying to be Abby, especially because she loved and cared for Abby.
Siwa said that she loved Abby and her assistant Gia and added that she thought the show would be more successful if it was original and tried not to copy Abby.
More on Dance Moms fame JoJo Siwa's new film, All My Friends are Dead
All My Friends are Dead is one of the first films of JoJo Siwa that also stars her School of Rock co-star Jade Pettyjohn. The movie features a group of college friends as they go to a music festival called Karma Palooza. There, they are killed one after the other according to the seven deadly sins they have committed.
Jade, who is also a child star like Siwa, and shares Nickelodeon fame with her, was also interviewed by US Weekly, where she shared her experience of working for AMFD. She said that working for Nickelodeon prepared her to act in a horror film such as AMFD.
She said she felt like she was "in her element" and that she felt at home even though the props they threw at her weren't vegan. She called it "gross" and then added:
"It was just really fun. I mean, that’s why you sign on to do a horror film is to scream and to be covered in fake blood".
All 10 episodes of Dance Moms: A New Era are available to stream on Hulu, on demand.
