Alfonso Ribeiro is a well-recognized face in the entertainment industry, most famously known for his role as Carlton Banks on the iconic 90s TV show The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Alfonso has carved out a successful and long-lasting career in the industry by earning various gigs, including being the co-host of Dancing With the Stars. Alongside Julianne Hough, Alfonso will return for season 33. He won the Len Goodman Mirrorball trophy with professional dancer Witney Carson in season 19.

He has a net worth of $4 million, as per Celebrity Net Worth. His estimated net worth comes from a combination of acting and directing in movies, advertisements, TV shows, singing, dancing, and hosting, and other investments.

Apart from his acting and dancing accolades, Alfonso Ribeiro has a prolific career as a director in TV shows while also being a TV host of a few reality shows, including Catch 21, Spell-Mageddon. Alfonso's most notable hosting duty is ABC's America's Funniest Home Videos for which he has been working for the last six seasons.

Acting journey and financial growth of Alfonso Ribeiro

Alfonso Ribeiro started his career as a child actor at the age of eight and made his Broadway debut at 12. Getting some accolades for his dancing, he later got to work with Michael Jackson in a Pepsi commercial in the 1980s, when Alfonso was still struggling as an actor. He got his big break in the TV realm when he was cast as Alfonso Spears in Silver Spoons alongside Rick Schroder.

His love for dancing started way earlier than his gig in Dancing With The Stars, as in 1985, Ribeiro authored a dance instruction book, Alfonso's Breakin' & Poppin' Book.

All this early exposure work led to his portrayal of Carlton Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air from 1990 to 1996, which cemented his place in television history.

He often danced to Tom Jones' It's Not Unusual in the show alongside Will Smith, a dance routine dubbed "The Carlton" by the masses and became a cultural phenomenon.

Feeling typecast and other avenues of work

Despite the success of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Alfonso Ribeiro faced challenges in finding substantial roles after the show ended. He candidly discussed how being typecast as Carlton Banks affected his acting career, limiting his opportunities in Hollywood.

“It was one of the greatest roles that I ever was fortunate enough to play. But it was also the role that stopped me from acting again because people couldn’t see me as anything else. The sacrifice was not having an acting career anymore," Ribeiro said via ImDb.

Ribeiro found working opportunities behind the camera as well. Working for over 40 years in the industry, his resume also boasts directing duties on TV shows like In the House, Shake It Up, Are We There Yet?, The Wannabes, Meet the Browns, Cuts, Eve, One on One and All of Us.

Later, he found his career gradually shifting towards being a host on reality shows, taking into account his own experience with dancing and singing.

His role as the host of America's Funniest Home Videos since 2015 has introduced him to a new generation of viewers, which has led to other hosting gigs like Dancing With The Stars. The latest season, which premieres on September 17, 2023, will see Alfonso co-host again.

From his early days on Broadway to his iconic role on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and his current success as a television host, Ribeiro has continually evolved and adapted to the changing landscape of the entertainment industry.
