“All four of mine are gone”- Love is Blind: Mexico stars Mafer and Gerardo get emotional as they talk about their grandparents’ passing

Love is Blind: Mexico episode 1 aired on Netflix on Thursday, August 1, 2024. The platform released the first 4 episodes of the dating show. Episode 1 introduced all the contestants and showed them getting to know each other.

While some of them found genuine connections with a few people, some of them were still looking for their potential partners. Among a few of the connections, one was Mafer Trujillo, 29, who is a Marketing Director, and Gerardo Zapiain, 33, a musician.

After they went into their separate pods, Gerardo recognized Mafer’s voice. They discussed various things and then talked about their families. During one of the dates, they talked about their grandparents. While Gerardo told Mafer that both of his grandparents had passed away, Mafer shared with him:

"All four of mine are gone. "

In the first episode of Love is Blind: Mexico, both of them were seen getting emotional when talking about their grandparents.

Among the few people who connected were Mafer and Gerardo. Mafer was interested in Gerardo from the beginning, but Gerardo felt that he connected quite well with both Mafer and one more contestant, Fernanda Riva Palacio. Before Mafer’s date with Gerardo, she shared in confessional:

"I usually give my all in my relationships. I go hard, or I go home. But I’m giving even more here. In the pods, I’m giving my all times ten. It’s how I roll. It’s all or nothing with me."

After exchanging pleasantries, Gerardo initiated the conversation and told Mafer:

"Let’s talk about our families."

He told Mafer that his family is “super-duper” important to him. She asked Gerardo with whom he gets along the best, his mom or dad. He said he gets along with both his parents. He added that they also talk on the phone every day. He shared with Mafer:

"Before hanging up the phone with my dad, my mom, my brother, or whoever I’m talking to, whether it’s important or not, I always tell them, “I love you.”"

Mafer acknowledged and said that she also does that. She further said that both of them have the same views on family. She added that she has been “very, very close” to her family. Gerardo said it was awesome because that was exactly what he wanted from his partner.

Mafer then asked Gerardo if any of his grandparents were still alive. In response, he said that, “They’re all gone.” Mafer told him that all her four (grandparents) also passed away.

While they talked about the people they love, especially their grandparents, both Mafer and Gerardo got emotional. Mafer had tears in her eyes, and Gerardo consoled and said he was sorry. He said:

"I really feel you right now."

Mafer cried and told Gerardo that she really missed a lot of people. While she was crying, Gerardo told her that he hadn’t thought of his grandpa for some time, which made him emotional as well. He shared in the confessional:

"This experiment has brought up memories that I thought I’d forgotten."

After feeling better, Mafer told Gerardo that he had mentioned his grandma a few times, so she asked if she (grandma) was very important to him. He replied that both of his grandmas were very important to him. He also shared that he has a tattoo of one of them, who died of cancer.

Later, they moved on to other topics and continued their conversion on Love is Blind: Mexico episode 1.
