Reid Wilson, a 14-year-old vocalist from Alabama, is one of the most notable competitors on America's Got Talent Season 19. Reid has had a memorable journey in the show. As the season moves closer to the semi-final results, which will air on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 8 pm ET, the anticipation among the audience is clear.

In his first performance, Reid sang Lesley Gore's 1963 hit song You Don't Own Me. His performance was a surprise for the judges and the viewers. Howie Mandel was so impressed that he hit the Golden Buzzer to guarantee Reid's place in the live shows. Since then, Reid has had backing from the audience. Here are some key moments from his journey to the semi-finals.

A Golden Buzzer moment of Reid Wilson

The turtleneck sweater-wearing 14-year-old looked nervous at first, but the audience was amazed as soon as he started singing. The judges were astounded by his rendition of the feminist song: You Don't Own Me by Lesley Gore, which at the time questioned gender expectations.

Particularly Howie Mandel was unable to control his exuberance.

"You’re 14 years old, and you did that? I have no words," he said.

Mandel then proceeded to hit the Golden Buzzer. Reid's touching response when the confetti dropped was the icing on top of an incredible audition.

Reid’s journey through the quarterfinals

Reid Wilson proceeded straight to the quarterfinals after winning his Golden Buzzer, where he kept showcasing his remarkable vocal skills. This time, he sang a pop ballad by Ariana Grande called Almost Is Never Enough, which received a standing ovation from the crowd and great remarks from the judges.

Heidi Klum remarked, "You are so, so good," and Howie Mandel highlighted Reid's elegance and vocal control, drawing comparisons to the likes of renowned musicians. According to the judges, it was clear to see how much he had grown from the shy teenager who made his first stage appearance to the assured performer who commanded attention.

Additionally, the audience gave him a favorable response, sending him to the semifinals. Reid proved he was a strong candidate for the AGT title with his performance in the quarterfinals.

Reid made a risky decision to perform one of Whitney Houston's most well-known songs, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, in the semifinals. It was a risky decision given the complexity of the song, but Reid gave a memorable performance, once again impressing the judges.

Proud of his Golden Buzzer act, Howie Mandel complimented Reid's vocal range, describing it as "pure and beautiful." Sofia Vergara agreed, remarking on how Reid managed to make the song uniquely his own in spite of its intricacy.

Simon Cowell acknowledged that at first he wasn't sure about the performance but that by the end he was completely won over. Reid Wilson's strong high notes made the difference for him.

In response to Reid's metamorphosis, Heidi Klum said,

"It's been such a beautiful journey to watch you blossom on our stage."

One of the most notable storylines of Season 19 has been Reid Wilson's transformation from his bashful beginnings to his dominant semi-final performance.

What’s next for Reid Wilson?

Reid Wilson awaits as this AGT season progresses towards the semi-final results. From singing at intimate family get-togethers to taking the stage on one of the biggest reality TV platforms worldwide, he has impressed both judges and fans.

Reid Wilson is still appreciative of the chance and retains his modesty. He expressed his joy after his semi-final performance, remarking,

“It felt so great... I’m so honored to sing this song here, and hopefully, I’ll get the chance to sing another one for you guys.”

Reid's future on the show is up to the fans, with just a few spots remaining in the finals. Reid Wilson may very well end up in the running for the AGT Season 19 title.
