Mia Sanchez secured four nods from America's Got Talent judges
Mia Sanchez spent her youth singing and performing at various competitions. Starting since the age of five, Mia still could not shake her nerves before taking on the America's Got Talent stage.
"I feel shocked that I'm here in the first place. I have to calm myself down because I'm way too excited," Mia said.
The New Jersey resident walked onto the stage and introduced herself. Mia shared that she decided to pursue a career in music as her family was very "supportive" of her. She lived in a large household alongside her three siblings and four cousins. Despite that, she found time and space to indulge in her passion for music.
"I started doing little competitions in my town, and I had this little thing called Sussex County's Got Talent," Mia added.
The America's Got Talent contestant recalled how she participated in multiple competitions in her hometown at the start of her career. Recently, she had the opportunity to sing the national anthem at the Red Bull Arena before a Major League Soccer Game. She also revealed that she played the role of Moana in one of her school plays, which allowed her to flaunt her musical talents.
For her AGT audition, Mia chose Billie Eilish's song Happier Than Ever. The popular heartbreak song caught the attention of the live audience as they sang along with Mia. They applauded at her soulful voice texture.
Judge Sofia Vergara watched her with a smile, while Simon Cowell tapped to the beat of the song. Mia stunned the judges as she hit the highest note in the song with ease. The America's Got Talent live audience were up on their feet, cheering for Mia's performance. Judges Howie Mandel and Heidi Klum gave the singer a standing ovation.
"Mia Soleil Sanchez, I think that that's a name that people are gonna know tomorrow. I love everything about you, and I think America and the world will love you too," Howie said.
Heidi called the contestant a "gutsy young lady," while Sofia complimented her by calling her a "star."
"You know what's cool is that you kinda grew with the song, and that's not easy. I think that means you've got taste and you know where you're going. So I really, really, really like this audition," Simon said.
At the stage, Howie claimed if he had more than two Golden Buzzers, Mia could get one. However, by the end of their discussion, the four judges said yes to Mia, moving her ahead in the competition.
