America's Got Talent's judges and audiences witnessed an impressive Filipino singing group, L6. There were mixed reactions from the judges in both stages of the competition, the audition and the quarterfinals.

The group consists of five siblings and a niece. The overall reaction by the judges towards their performance during the quarterfinals was positive. Their objective is clear - they want to lead a comfortable life. To achieve their goal, they want to take home the winning prize of $1 million and win America's Got Talent.

The group's singing prowess is based on harmonizing and performing a popular song's rendition in their style. However, Howie Mandel questioned the group's relevance in the current music scene and called their performance "a little bit corny" and "not of today."

Conversely, Heidi Klum complimented the group by commenting,

"I think it fits in, like, the Broadway kind of genre. I mean, that's kind of what it reminds me of and, you know, I know there's only six of you, but you sound like there's 30 or 40 of you, which is crazy."

A memorable audition for America's Got Talent season 17

L6 made their initial impression by performing All by Myself by Celine Dion as a homage to their late mother. Simon Cowell, who has a reputation for stopping the performances in the middle, did it again. The audience started booing the judge for interrupting the ensemble in the middle of a moving performance.

Cowell provided his justification: He said the group would sound better without the musical track in the background. In the second attempt, the four judges unanimously gave the group acclaim for their rendition of the song performed acapella.

As Cowell put it,

"You could tell instantly, this is a great singing group. How you just took on everything without the track. You were more unique, it was more special, it was more memorable. You just absolutely nailed that."

What happened in the quarterfinals?

The group returned to America's Got Talent after a hurricane hit their hometown. They sang Rewrite the Stars from The Greatest Showman as they returned to America's Got Talent stage despite this setback. Although the judges had a mixed reaction, the audience in the auditorium was on their feet, cheering for the group.

Howie Mandel mentioned that the group is talented and musical, but he questioned their relevance in the modern-day music industry.

"Where would you go to a concert? I have no idea... I'm not sure where it fits in."

He also remarked that the final say is in the hands of the people of America.

Heidi Klum's overall reaction was positive, but she wanted the group to try the acapella, like the first performance. Sofia Vergara said she usually smiles when she sees the ensemble play, noting that they seemed more assured on stage.

Simon Cowell accepted Howie's point that the performance might have a "corny" aspect, but he commented that the audience will have their back.

What's next for L6?

The overall audience reaction for both rounds was positive, and they enjoyed L6's distinct style of harmonizing and collaborating. The group has become a famous act this season, reaching almost 2.6 million after combining the views of both performances (America's Got Talent YouTube channel). Next week, the group will get to know if they will continue in the competition.

The journey of L6 has been filled with obstacles and positive feedback for their art. If viewers wish to watch their journey on America's Got Talent, they can tune in on NBC on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8/7c and stream the next day on Peacock.
