America’s Got Talent season 19 aired its third quarterfinal episode on August 27, 2024. In this episode, fans of the reality show saw 11 acts, including Menudo, Sam Huang, The Reklaws, Sabrina, Kelsey Jane, Journeyy, Learnmore Jonasi, Dee Dee Simon, Maya Neelakantan, Reid Wilson, and Jelly Boy the Clown.
Out of these 11, only 4 will be able to qualify for the next round of the competition. America’s Got Talent featured eight episodes of auditions, after which four quarterfinal rounds will determine the acts to move on to the semis.
The host of the show, Terry Crews, declared that out of the four judges, Heidi Klum will be in control of the Golden Buzzer and will send an act directly to The Finals. Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, and Simon Cowell are the rest of the judges in the live event.
What happened in America’s Got Talent season 19 quarterfinals 1?
Boy band Menudo, the first act to start the episode, was criticized by the judges in their audition rounds of America’s Got Talent. The act made a new original song Party En California, which had Spanish lyrics as well. Despite the crowd's cheers, the judges weren't that impressed by the song, again.
Howie and Simon criticized their performance as it felt like they were performing on Saturday morning television. Sofia praised the group for the atmosphere they brought with the song but also mentioned their lack of vocal skills.
Taiwan’s Sam Huang was up next as he showcased his close-up magic routine. Sam impressed judges like Simon during his auditions, and he came back with a hand trickery finger displacement act— something that he came up with to help his Tourette’s.
The judges had mixed reactions to his act as they wondered if he could bring anything unique after this in the finals. Simon claimed that he hadn't seen anything like this before which he appreciated but called the music "terrible".
Country musicians The Reklaws were next to perform. The duo wanted to switch it up in this round as they had performed a personal melancholic song in the audition round. They returned with a much more upbeat song titled, Love Live The Night.
Sofia complimented the duo for singing original songs on the stage of America’s Got Talent. The rest of the judges admitted to liking their audition round more than this performance.
The Japanese group Sabrina was next to perform, with all the 18 dancers who came together to showcase their synced choreography. The judges praised the act, with Heidi claiming that America would vote for them because of their performance.
Simon claimed that this was the biggest reaction of the night from the audience, but didn’t think they compared to recent winners from Lebanon, The Mayyas.
Next up was aerialist Kelsey Jane, who also works as a dentist. She used suspended silks to perform her latest act, which Heidi loved. After giving a standing ovation to Kelsey, she praised her for excelling in the act as a hobby. Simon even asked her the reason for doing this despite doing well as a dentist. Kelsey simply replied, “Because it’s fun.”
Simon loved the 9-year-old singer, Journeyy, who performed next in the quarterfinal round of America’s Got Talent. Simon even gave him valuable advice in the audition round which allowed him to put more high notes in his rendition of Bob Marley's Three Little Birds. Sophia and Howie also praised the young singer, calling him the best act of the night.
Comedian Learnmore Jonasi was chosen by Terry, for whom he pressed the Golden Buzzer in America’s Got Talent. After his performance, Sofia called his act “joyful and relatable” and Simon praised him for being “one of the best contestants” of the season.
Singer Dee Dee Simon covered Teddy Swims' Lose Control for her performance. She removed her shoes in the midst of her performance, which prompted Howie to do the same. Not only did she get a standing ovation, but also the Golden Buzzer for her performance. This would mean that Dee Dee will go straight to the Finals.
The next performer was 11-year-old guitarist Maya Neelakantan, whom Simon called a "rock goddess”. She performed Metallica's Master Of Puppets in her own style. Howie adored the mix of Indian music that was integrated by Maya. The rest of the judges also praised the young performer for improving on her audition round.
Reid Wilson performed Ariana Grande's song Almost Is Never Enough, in hopes of wowing the judges and the audiences. All the judges praised the 15-year-old for his stage presence and strong pitch, commenting that he belonged on the stage.
Jelly Boy The Clown was the final act to perform on tonight's episode of America’s Got Talent. His act was swallowing swords left Simon in awe of the performance, who claimed that he loved the act because he would remember it the next day. Heidi and Sofia also praised the act but felt he didn't have to come near the judges to perform his acts.
The next episode of America’s Got Talent will air on Wednesday, August 28 on NBC.
