In the August 27 episode, America’s Got Talent reached the pivotal Quarterfinals 3 stage. Judges Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, Sofia Vergara, and Simon Cowell evaluated the performances, with each judge holding the power to advance acts directly to the Finals through the Golden Buzzer.
During this episode, Heidi Klum used her Golden Buzzer and selected Dee Dee Simon, a 45-year-old singer from Oakland, California. Simon, who juggles her singing passion with her career as a registered nurse at a state prison, delivered a moving performance that resonated deeply with Klum.
America’s Got Talent Dee Dee Simon's Golden Buzzer moment
Heidi Klum announced her choice to use the Golden Buzzer on Dee Dee Simon. Klum said that she went with her gut and was deeply touched by Simon's performance. During the live show of America’s Got Talent, Klum stated,
“I mean, Dee Dee, your range, the tone in your voice. You look so stunning tonight. But I feel like something is missing, like a sparkly belt, a sparkly ring, something gold. My stomach is talking to me. My stomach is talking — [pushes Golden Buzzer]."
Dee Dee Simon demonstrated her vocal range and emotional expression during her rendition of Lose Control. Due to Klum's Golden Buzzer, Simon gets to go straight to the America’s Got Talent season 19 Finals. She will compete against other finalists, including Howie Mandel's AIRFOOTWORKS and Sofia Vergara's Hakuna Matata Acrobats, as well as other unnamed contestants.
Competing acts and judges’ reactions
In the America's Got Talent Quarterfinals 3 episode, the acts competing for advancement included boyband Menudo, singer Reid Wilson, dance group Sabrina, magician Sam Huang, band The Reklaws, singer and keyboardist Journeyy, aerialist Kelsey Jane, comedian Learnmore Jonasi, and electric guitarist Maya Neelakantan. The three artists moving on to the Semi-Finals will be revealed on the August 28 results show.
Praising Simon, Howie Mandel said,
“You knocked your shoes off. You knocked my shoes off. And I gotta tell you something. I would imagine Jelly Roll is gonna be posting that. You made him proud. You made it your own. You were amazing.”
Simon Cowell praised Simon's audacity and fervor, saying,
“I love moments like this, when someone isn’t a full-time singer, but has always dreamed of it. You just went for it. I loved the moment when you kicked your shoes off and it just went up a gear. You know, Dee Dee, I think you’ve given yourself a shot at winning the whole competition.”
Dee Dee Simon’s audition performance
Dee Dee Simon's America's Got Talent audition featured a powerful rendition of Jennifer Holliday's And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going from Dreamgirls. Performing barefoot as a symbolic gesture, Simon dedicated her performance to those who felt undervalued. Her audition earned unanimous approval from all four judges, advancing her to the next round.
