Richard Goodall's journey on America’s Got Talent season 19

Richard Goodall started as an elementary school janitor before winning over America's heart. Passionate performances and heartfelt moments marked his path to victory.

During the season 19 quarterfinals, Goodall delivered a moving cover of Michael Bolton's How Am I Supposed to Live Without You, earning him America's vote to advance to the semifinals. This performance was significant as it showcased his emotional depth and vocal talent, with Goodall stating that he aims to "bring hope and positivity into the world" through his music.

In an interview with The Indianapolis Star in May 2024, Goodall reflected on his journey from singing for schoolchildren to becoming a national sensation. He recounted how a casual performance of Journey's Don't Stop Believin' in 2022 went viral, leading to an unexpected path to America’s Got Talent.

His cover of Michael Bolton's classic was particularly emotional, especially with his fiancée present in the audience. The judges praised his performance, with Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara expressing their admiration for his authenticity and passion. Goodall mentioned,

"I had such a tough time keeping it together... Her being there meant the world to me."

Goodall continued to impress in the semifinals with a powerful rendition of Survivor's Eye of the Tiger. Dressed in a sparkling shirt and his signature flap cap, he brought intense energy to the stage, reminiscent of the song's iconic role in the Rocky III soundtrack. As the America’s Got Talent Finale night progressed, host Terry Crews began revealing the results. Brent Street was the first to be eliminated, with Sky Elements advancing to the top five.

In subsequent rounds, Sebastián & Sonia, Dee Dee Simon, and Hakuna Matata Acrobats were eliminated, leaving Learnmore Jonasi, Sky Elements, Richard Goodall, Solange Kardinaly, and Roni Sagi & Rhythm in contention.

Learnmore Jonasi ranked fifth, followed by Solange Kardinaly in fourth, and Sky Elements secured third place. The final two acts, Richard Goodall and dog act Roni Sagi & Rhythm awaited the final announcement. Ultimately, Richard Goodall was named the winner of America’s Got Talent season 19, taking home the $1 million prize.
