Below Deck Mediterranean is running in its ninth season, and was the first spin-off series of the Below Deck franchise. The reality TV show started on May 3, 2016, and was broadcast by Bravo. The show chronicles the life of crew members of a superyacht and revolves around their personal and professional conflicts. Season 1 had Mark Howard as the captain of the yacht 'Ionian Princess.' He was replaced by Sandra Yawn as the captain for the rest of the 8 seasons.
Malia White and Tom Checketts appeared as crew members in season 5 of Below Deck Mediterranean. While Malia was bosun on the ship, Tom filled in as a chef from episodes 11 to 20. Malia was also the first female bosun in the history of Below Deck. According to BravoTV's The Daily Dish, Malia revealed in the After Show that she was apprehensive about Tom joining the crew as she was worried about balancing their relationship amidst work on the boat.

What happened between Malia and Tom on season 5 of Below Deck Mediterranean?
Malia and Tom dated during season 5 of the show. Tom joined the cast of the show in episode 11. Tom was visiting Malia as her boyfriend but soon filled the role of chef that was left vacant by the early departure of Kiko from the show. Malia had opened up about Tom joining the show as a chef during the After Show. She revealed that the new dynamics between them were a source of worry for her.

"Tom coming on board as chef was like a nightmare. On a selfish level, I wanted this to be about me becoming bosun, and I think Tom coming on board, it's now Malia and Tom. We're like a team. That's a whole 'nother dynamic you have to worry about."
Later, in an exclusive interview with US Weekly on August 3, 2021, Malia White shared that she heard from a friend that Tom was allegedly cheating on her.
She further shared in the interview:
"It was in the pandemic [that] had just happened. So, it was impossible for us to see each other. It was right when the show is coming out, it’s obviously a lot going on in our lives. And, yeah, he found someone else on his boats, and I didn’t know for a couple of months.”
She also added that Tom wanted to get back with her, and was apologetic for what he had done. But the Below Deck star stated that she was done with him. She also said that she wishes he had never joined the show, and that would have been better for her.
Tom and Malia reunited for the last time in early September 2020 in London as reported by BravoTV's The Daily Dish. Tom left the show after season 5 and Malia left the show after season 6. In Season 6, the premiere episode introduced the audience to Jake Baker, who became a new love interest for Malia. But their relationship was kept off-camera, and the audience got to know nothing about the couple through the show.
Tom keeps a very private and low profile. After being part of season 5 of Below Deck Mediterranean. His Instagram account is private, and nothing has been revealed about his personal life after his stint on the show. Currently, the show is streaming its season 9 on Bravo which premiered on June 3, 2024.
