Below Deck Mediterranean, season 9 episode 3 was released on Monday, June 17, and was titled Drifting Standards. As the title suggests, the episode saw the crew at Mustique struggle to keep up with the high standards expected from a super yacht.

Chef Jono delivered food to guests which wasn't good enough for their palate, First, he served chicken for dinner, followed by a sponge cake. Then, he prepared eggs for breakfast, which had run cold and the guests had to send them back.

Meanwhile, Nathan and a guest went paddleboarding and got lost at sea. They drifted apart and were united with Mustique with the help of a catamaran passing by.

What went down on Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 episode 3?

Gael and Nathan finally don't meet

The last episode ended with Gael and Nathan texting each other about meeting up in the storage area, where there were no cameras. Episode 3 of Below Deck Mediterranean opened with Gael getting caught by the cameras and rushing back to her room. She messaged Nathan that she saw the cameras and wasn't going to meet him.

In a confessional, Gael shared that since she was still in a relationship, she wanted to be more responsible. Nathan noted that he didn't want to pressure Gael into doing something wrong.

The Captain discusses the preference sheet

After the provisioner's fiasco in episode 2 of Below Deck Mediterranean, Captain Sandy replaced their last provisioner with a new one. When the groceries arrived, she was relieved to see that the new company had delivered to their expectation.

When they sat down for the preference sheet discussion, the Captain revealed that the new guests included Gigi Fernández, a two-time Olympic champion. Sandy also mentioned that she was her friend, and the previous yacht had a chef who served her a seven-course meal.

The preference sheet also unveiled that there was a guest in the group who had requested no mayonnaise, lamb, turkey, duck, pork, or seafood. They also had a gluten allergy. Hearing all this Chef Jono didn't look thrilled, but was obliged to follow it either way.

A guest gets lost at sea

In Below Deck Mediterranean, one of the guests named Laura wanted to paddleboard, so Nathan accompanied her. They drifted away at sea without anyone's notice and that's when Sandy finally figured out that they were already far away. In a confessional, Nathan said:

"We’re actually going backwards because the current is that strong. So, yeah, we’re stuck at sea, and I’m sh*tting myself".

They were lucky because a passing catamaran picked them up and dropped them to Mustique. Sandy asked Iain to never take his eyes off the guests in the water again and asked him to apologize to Gigi.

Jono doesn't perform well

In episode 3 of Below Deck Mediterranean, Sandy had already highlighted that the guests in season 9 had high expectations because of Gigi's stature and the fact that she had traveled across the globe and gotten 5-star treatment. First, Chef Jono went overboard with his use of spice in the tacos he served, the guests thought they were okay but could've been better.

Second, he was serving them chicken for the main course which disappointed Sandy, who noted that it was not what a superyacht would serve. Gigi wasn't thrilled either as she said:

"It’s just too much rosemary".

Chef Jono served sponge cake for dessert which Aesha thought was the "most boring" cake of them all. In a confessional, she called the dish:

"Poop on a platter".

The guests weren't delighted to have the cake as well. Gigi thought it could've been more chocolatey. She complained to Sandy about the food they had eaten since the last day, and the latter replied that she would take care of it.
