Bravo released Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 episode 7, titled Chain Reaction, on Monday, July 15, 2024. The episode picked up where the previous one left off, dealing with technical issues with the anchor and the chain.

In this episode of Below Deck Mediterranean season 9, Aesha attempted to resolve tensions among the crew, though she wasn't sure if her efforts were successful. Meanwhile, Captain and Iain had a bit of an argument regarding choosing the new lead deckhand. The episode ended with one more issue, which Captain Sandy had to face.

Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 episode 7: Recap explored

The Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 episode 6 ended with Captain Sandy yelling to put the brakes on. It was for the free-falling anchor. Somehow, crew members and engineers were able to stop the chains. But, as Captain described:

"We’re not going to be able to get our anchor up."

Given that the anchor is one of the most expensive pieces of equipment onboard the ship, the Captain can’t leave it behind. The episode showed that a new anchor chain costs approximately $65,000. To stay on the safe side, the Captain decided to leave a buoy to mark the anchor’s location and planned to return to the dock, where the guests were onboard. She was hoping that the Mustique crew could come back later for the anchor.

Seeing the situation, Aesha took charge of informing the guests about the technical issues and the delay, which might result in guests missing out on their flights. She served drinks to guests while informing them of the latest updates. Meanwhile, Captain Sandy also went to the guests and reassured them.

Below Deck Mediterranean episode 7: Captain’s not happy with Iain

While Joe was placing the fender to keep the boat from hitting the docks, the Captain was worried. She asked Iain if he had made any decisions about choosing the lead deckhand. While Iain wanted to have Joe as the lead deckhand, Captain told him:

"Nate works circles around him. Joe’s a great talker, so maybe that’s why you thought that … I think you need to reassess experience."

Captain shared in the confessional that Iain should not have decided without assessing various factors. She stated:

"This is clearly an oversite on Iain’s part. He should’ve informed me before making this decision … In the last few dockings, I always have to correct [Joe]. If Iain had taken the time to read the CVs, he would have seen that Nathan has a lot more experience than Joe. That’s a red flag."

As a result, she decided to choose Nate as the bow guy and told Iain to always run everything by her before reaching any final decision.

Aesha’s meeting

After the guests departed, Aesha called the meeting and began with:

"Well done on this trip, guys! I’m so pleased. You guys lost your focus for a little bit. It’s important to remember to say things with respect and kindness."

While she was talking, Ellie interrupted and said that she is bothered when someone is spreading that she (Ellie) has been disrespecting people. Bri jumped in and shared that her feelings were also hurt.

Acknowledging the issues between them, Aesha concluded the meeting by urging everyone to be the best team they could be. The meeting ended with a group hug. However, Aesha was not sure if she resolved everything and decided to keep an eye on things, ready to involve the Captain in the loop if necessary.

Below Deck Mediterranean: Yet another risk

Below Deck Mediterranean episode 7 ended with a new challenge for Captain Sandy. She was notified about a wildfire near the marina and shared:

"This is the first time in my career that I’ve dealt with wildfires. We need to get off the dock before we have a problem."

With new guests already onboard for one night, the Captain wanted to keep everyone safe, away from the smoke. However, the winds picked up, so they had to wait.

On the other hand, there was a superyacht that was blocking the boat’s exit. So, they had to take a risk to keep the guests away from the smoke from the wildfire.
