What happened on Below Deck Mediterranean season 9, episode 9? Recap explored

Captain Sandy and Iain: Things are not working out

As they were leaving Hydra, the Captain released stern lines and thought of using the anchors to pull the boat away from the dock. She ordered Iain to release the lines. Similar to when they arrived on the dock, Iain couldn’t see the fenders. Once again, he failed to find assistance from the dock.

Iain told the Captain:

"No one there."

But Captain knew there had to be someone as she had just seen the boat next to them, which had been released a few moments before. She asked Iain to look again. After that, Iain spotted a guy, and his response was:

"Oh, I see him now. He was hiding."

Later, when Gael asked Iain to call Fenders, Iain was worried that he might get into trouble once again.

"I just don’t want to do anything right now ‘cause I’ll get in troublem," he shared in the confessional.

Gael called it “not the right attitude,” while he shared in the confessional:

"I feel like with Iain, there’s a lack of accountability. He’s just constantly pointing the finger rather than putting it on himself and saying, ‘Maybe I could’ve handled this better."

More "Iain-troubles" in Athens

Later in the episode, while they were docking in Athens, Iain told the Captain to come astern. For that, the Captain radioed back and shared that they never go astern, and the boat’s propellers might get a line wrapped around, which would mean huge trouble.

Captain was done with such behavior from Iain. She shared in the confessional:

"He says things, and he doesn’t even look. At this level on a superyacht, I expect more from the bosun. I just think that Iain’s head is somewhere else. Starting now, I’m not letting it slide."

Mustique crew’s night out

The crew members enjoyed their night out, going to a club at night. When Gael’s boyfriend texted and wanted to talk with her, she was busy with crewmembers as they were having dinner.

On the other hand, Ellie and Joe were seen getting intimate. They were seen dancing together and, later on, making out while dancing. Bri was not getting good vibes from the situation.

"I’m not jealous. If you want to hook up, hook up. Fine. It just gets annoying when you do it right in front of me. Don’t do that," she shared in the confessional.

Since multiple crew members have been managing the laundry, there have been many issues regarding who did what. To keep things easy, Bri has been keeping a diary, mentioning what tasks were carried out and by whom.

Later, Jono was wearing someone else’s pants, which had his nametag on them. Ellie accepted her mistake and shared that she had written the wrong name on the tag. When Captain Sandy found Bri crying, she told her to control her emotions and be confident.

After the situation with Bri and Ellie was out of hand, Aesha asked the Captain to help her find a solution. Captain Sandy radioed and asked both Ellie and Bri to meet her on the bridge.

The Captain told them both that they were all there to do a job and respect each other in the workplace. She also told them that if they can’t work together, she can’t fire one of them; she (the Captain) will have to let go of them both (Ellie and Bri).

Later, when Captain Sandy asked if they could work together, neither Bri nor Ellie seemed to agree. Hence, the Captain’s final decision was:

"Everyone here is replaceable. You’ll both be on the ferry going back."
