Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 finale episode recap: Ellie clashes with Aesha while the crew helps with Sandy’s proposal

Below Deck Mediterranean, the season 9 finale episode highlighted Captain Sandy's proposal to her partner Leah Shafer. The crew helped Sandy with the preparations for the major event, however, there was some tension between the cast members due to their prior beef.

As fans already know, Carrie's arrival has caused a drift between Ellie and Aesha. Ellie wanted to become the next chief stew under Aesha's guidance but felt Carrie had taken over her role. Aesha was impressed by Carrie's abilities and was unsure as to why Ellie felt she was favoring the new crew member.

In episode 17, Ellie was upset that Aesha chose other cast members to prepare for Sandy's proposal. She felt left out by the stew's decision but was soon called out by her fellow co-workers on her behavior and complaints.

Below Deck Mediterranean, season 9 finale episode 17 titled Happily Ever After was released exclusively on Bravo TV on September 23, 2024. The episode synopsis reads as the following:

"The crew work closely to make sure Captain Sandy's proposal goes smoothly without a hitch, but unexpected difficulties emerge; a fresh romance sparks on the last crew night out."

What happened on Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 episode 17?

On Below Deck Mediterranean season 9 episode 17, Aesha told the cameras that she felt "gaslighted" by Ellie. As per the chief stew, Ellie's behavior was unpredictable and she couldn't guess what Dubaich was feeling. Ellie on the other hand was trying to take over more responsibility to "prove" Aesha, she was a worthy crew member to be promoted to the next level. Ellie claimed:

“At this point, everything I do is wrong. I am trying to prove to my boss that I can do this job. How is she supposed to write a reference saying I could be a good chief stew if she’s never seen any leadership skills from me?”

When it was time to prepare for the proposal, Joe Bradley, Gael Cameron, and Carrie O’Neill alongside Aesha left the boat. Before leaving, Scott assigned the responsibility to take charge of the yacht to Ellie. However, Ellie felt left out that she wasn't chosen to help with Captain Sandy's engagement ceremony. During her confessional interview, the Below Deck Mediterranean star said:

“I am definitely feeling down. Aesha didn’t pick me to participate in Captain Sandy’s engagement which would have been such an honor for me. I feel like all the work I have done this entire season is for nothing.”

Then, Ellie opened up about how she was feeling to crew members Bri Muller, Nathan Gallager, Iain Maclean, and Johnathan Shillingford. Bri implied that Ellie was complaining too much, meanwhile, Nathan told the cameras that Dubaich was being "bitter" and "spiteful" towards Carrie. he continued:

“Just because Carrie has come in now and took the attention away from you, you are being bitter? You are being spiteful? Not everything is about you, Ellie."

The Below Deck Mediterranean cast member Bri shared she could understand where Ellie was coming from when she was not included in the engagement preparations. However, Bri also said that Ellie should have accepted Aesha's decision to choose Carrie for help as she is the chief stew.
