Drama amongst the crew
Season 5 also revisits the complicated personal dynamics that fans have come to expect from Below Deck Sailing Yacht. Daisy Kelliher’s return comes on the heels of a love triangle from season 4, involving First Mate Gary King and former Chief Engineer Colin MacRae.
While Colin did not return for season 5, the unresolved tensions between Daisy and Gary are sure to cause waves. In the premiere episode, Daisy openly discussed the emotional strain she experienced after her relationships with both men fell apart.
“I am super excited to be here, but seeing Gary — I just don’t want to be around him,” Daisy shared, hinting at potential conflicts ahead.
Despite these challenges, Daisy and Gary attempted to resolve their issues during an emotional conversation, with Daisy stating,
“I needed a friend... I felt incredibly low and very lonely. All I wanted was you to call me.”
In response, Gary expressed regret for his actions and admitted that he ought to have offered more assistance. With so much history between them, it's unclear how their working relationship will develop as the season goes on, even though their reunion might be crucial to the dynamics of season 5.
